ZYMIX has launched a social super app in the UK for Gen Z users aged 18 and over. It describes the product as the first of its kind built for the British market.

The app combines messaging, calls, short-form video, communities, events, payments, news, discovery tools and mini apps on one platform. It is designed to reduce the need to switch between multiple apps to complete related social tasks.

The launch comes as technology groups continue to test whether the super app model, which has gained scale in parts of Asia, can work in Western markets. ZYMIX is positioning its product around everyday social activity in Britain, from chatting with friends to finding events and sharing costs.

Ofcom research highlights the scale of app use in the UK. The regulator reported that UK adults use 41 apps on average each month, while people aged 18 to 24 spend more than six hours online every day.

ZYMIX has structured the app around five sections: Chat, Mix, Discover, Me and AI. These areas share one identity system and account layer, allowing users to move between communication, content, services and transactions without repeatedly logging into separate products.

Chat and payments

The Chat section includes one-to-one and group messaging, voice messages, photo sharing, stickers, read receipts, quote replies, notification controls, real-time translation, and voice and group calls. The messaging layer also links directly to the app's wallet service, allowing peer-to-peer transfers and cash gifts within conversations.

The wallet supports balances in GBP and EUR, as well as account top-ups, e-SIM top-ups and shared-expense management. Payment services are provided through Mangopay, while ZYMIX manages the consumer-facing app experience.

Content and discovery

Mix combines social posting and short-form video through feeds labelled Following, Explore and Video. Users can publish or view text, images and vertical video through the same profile. Public follower counts have been removed as part of the product design.

Discover brings together event discovery and ticketing, selected UK news content, mini games, communities and mini apps. Through an integration with Ticket Tailor, users can find events, buy and share tickets, and add them to a calendar within the same app.

The app also includes a proximity-based feature called Groups Nearby, intended to help users find local groups and societies. Other built-in functions include Point Mall, Task Centre and Invite & Earn, all tied to the platform's rewards system.

ZYPoints rewards user activity such as daily check-ins, profile completion, first deposits, engagement tasks and referrals. The company noted that the rewards structure may change over time.

AI layer

The fifth section, branded as AI, covers entertainment, content discovery, voice interaction and personal assistance. Users can connect selected platforms and digital services and ask the assistant to find files, organise information, discover content and help with everyday tasks.

The app also includes Paw Voice, which ZYMIX describes as a test entertainment concept focused on AI interpretation of pet behaviour and vocalisation.

Nikita Sun, Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer, said social and utility functions increasingly sit within the same digital journey for younger users.

"Digital fragmentation is no longer simply a crowded home screen. It is embedded in the way a single activity is divided between different identities, interfaces and notification systems. Chat makes communication the layer through which other activity can move, removing the break between a conversation and the action that follows it. Mix places publishing, discovery and short-form video on one social graph, while Discover provides an extensible environment for events, news, communities, games and mini apps. Me connects identity, privacy, rewards and payments through one account layer. Together, these areas replace a series of disconnected journeys with one interoperable product architecture," said Sun.

The wider market for integrated consumer apps remains unsettled outside Asia, despite growing interest from major platforms. Tencent has built Weixin and WeChat into a broad ecosystem spanning communications, social content, payments and commercial services, while X has publicly outlined ambitions to become an "everything app".

ZYMIX said its approach differs from adapting an overseas model for local use, arguing that the app has been built around how young people in the UK communicate, organise and pay.

Sun said the launch is intended to simplify online behaviour rather than add another digital destination. "ZYMIX is not placing another collection of standalone features on the smartphone. It is rebuilding the relationship between them so that communication, content, discovery and payments can operate as consecutive parts of the same journey. The product competes for simplicity rather than attention, reducing the number of systems users need to navigate while keeping each function clear and purposeful," said Sun.
