Aptitude Software has appointed Kenneth Paqvalén as Chief Financial Officer as it expands its Fynapse finance software business.

Paqvalén joins the London-headquartered software group after senior finance roles across software, data and telecommunications businesses. At Aptitude, he will oversee investment growth and capital allocation strategy, and act as a commercial partner to Chief Executive Officer Alex Curran and the board.

The hire reflects Aptitude's focus on scaling Fynapse, its finance enterprise resource planning product. The company describes the platform as a real-time finance system designed to support data use in artificial intelligence projects.

Paqvalén has spent nearly 15 years in Chief Financial Officer roles. Most recently, he was Chief Financial Officer at Napier AI, a regulatory technology company focused on financial crime compliance for banking and insurance customers.

Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Financial Officer at R3 and MariaDB. He also led the finance and control function in Nokia's business development unit and was involved in the acquisition of Motorola Networks.

Growth role

Aptitude highlighted Paqvalén's experience in scaling software businesses. During a three-year period at Matillion, he helped grow the business from USD $150 million to USD $1.5 billion.

Curran said the timing of the appointment was important for the group's development.

"Kenneth joins Aptitude at a pivotal point in our journey. We have a significant opportunity ahead of us with Fynapse, and we're focused on scaling the business to capture it.

"He brings deep financial leadership experience, a strong commercial mindset and a proven track record of helping SaaS and AI businesses grow. He also understands how the role of the CFO is changing: from steward of the numbers to a strategic co-pilot to the business. That perspective will be invaluable as we accelerate Fynapse, strengthen our commercial execution and pursue the opportunity we see in finance ERP," said Alex Curran, Chief Executive Officer of Aptitude Software.

The appointment brings in a finance executive with direct experience in software groups selling into data, database and regulated markets. It also puts a new finance leader alongside Curran as Aptitude seeks to broaden its position in finance systems software.

CFO perspective

Paqvalén framed the role around finance teams seeking more immediate access to operational and financial information.

"It's an exciting time to be joining. Fynapse is what CFOs have been waiting for - a finance ERP that gives them a real-time P&L, numbers they can defend to a board, and the data foundation their AI strategy depends on. That's the difference between finance reporting on what happened and finance shaping what happens next," said Kenneth Paqvalén, Chief Financial Officer of Aptitude Software.

He also outlined how he sees his remit inside the company.

"I look forward to applying my experience scaling high-growth companies to strengthen financial foundations and continue developing the product base, while maintaining a focus on customers and their experience of the software," Paqvalén said.

Aptitude has centred much of its current strategy on Fynapse, which it describes as an AI-native finance enterprise resource planning system. The product operates in a market where software suppliers are trying to show finance teams they can access faster reporting and a stronger data foundation for automation and AI use.

For Aptitude, the arrival of a new Chief Financial Officer with experience across several software businesses signals a push to align financial management with commercial growth plans. For Paqvalén, the role marks another step in a career spanning international finance leadership positions over the past two decades.

During that time, he has worked across businesses in data infrastructure, database software, blockchain-related enterprise technology, regulatory technology and telecoms finance, bringing broad sector experience to Aptitude's leadership team.
