Xantaro joins Jisc framework to boost UK education networks

Today

Xantaro has been awarded a place on the Jisc Network Solutions Framework, gaining the opportunity to support the procurement of digital infrastructure for education and research institutions across the UK.

The company has secured positions on Lot 9, which covers Nokia solutions, and Lot 24, covering Precision Optical Technologies, on the newly launched Jisc framework. This arrangement provides Jisc members, along with other eligible organisations, with access to the full portfolio of solutions from both Nokia and Precision Optical Technologies through the framework.

Framework details

The newly established framework, which began in June 2025, has an initial duration of two years and offers the option for two additional one-year extensions. Jisc operates as a not-for-profit membership organisation focused on advancing digital capabilities in education and research, providing core digital infrastructure and services, and managing the Janet network - recognized as the UK's national research and education network.

The Jisc Network Solutions Framework is designed to simplify and speed up the procurement process for higher education, further education, research institutions, local authorities, research councils, and regional broadband consortia connected to Janet. By being included in this framework for the first time, Xantaro will provide support to Jisc members without requiring protracted tender procedures or contract negotiations.

The framework promises Jisc members several benefits, such as financial and technical vetting of suppliers by Jisc Services Ltd (JSL), streamlined procurement via tailored mini-competitions, pre-agreed commercial terms, and the potential for cost reductions through collective procurement. A wide selection of network equipment, including WAN, Wi-Fi and firewall solutions, is also accessible to members.

Executive and industry perspectives

"Being awarded a place on the Jisc Network Solutions Framework is a significant milestone for Xantaro. Jisc's framework is designed to provide access to the best products for the needs of the UK's education and research sector and we're proud to be included as a mark of the trust that can be placed in Xantaro to provide exactly what the sector needs. We're looking forward to working with Jisc members as they prepare for a future shaped by next-generation networking", said Stuart Smith, Client Director of Public Sector & Enterprise, Xantaro.

Through the award of Lot 9 and Lot 24, Xantaro will serve as a single point of access for Jisc members seeking to procure Nokia and Precision Optical Technologies equipment. The company's involvement reflects an increasing demand for streamlined procurement supported by technical expertise within the education sector and its associated research community.

"Xantaro being added to Jisc Network Solutions Framework should help more of the UK's leading institutions access next-generation Nokia equipment to expand their networks. Xantaro's deep understanding of our technology makes them a strong partner for enabling next-gen network deployments in education and research", said Paul Alexander, Vice President and Country General Manager of UK&I, Nokia.

The collaboration also extends to Precision Optical Technologies, with the framework facilitating access to its product range for Jisc members across the country.

"Precision Optical Technologies is excited to work with Xantaro to support the members of Jisc. Their first-class technical expertise and commitment to service excellence make them a great match for institutions seeking scalable, high-performance and vendor agnostic connectivity solutions" added Antony Henderson, Director of Sales, Precision Optical Technologies.

Ongoing engagement

Xantaro has begun its engagement with Jisc stakeholders and member institutions. The company is focused on supporting both the existing digital infrastructure and the development of next-generation network capabilities, including 800G solutions.

By participating in the framework, Xantaro provides an additional procurement pathway for education and research organisations to access advanced digital network solutions, aiming to support both immediate operational needs and future developments.
