TeamViewer adds approved AI fixes to remote support

TeamViewer has introduced Tia Troubleshooting, which allows its AI support agent to take approved action during remote support sessions. The feature is now generally available across the company's remote support portfolio.

The update marks a shift in how Tia is used in IT support. Rather than being limited to recommendations, the tool can now investigate a fault, identify a likely root cause, apply a fix after human approval, and then check whether the issue has been resolved.

Tia is available through TeamViewer ONE, Tensor, and SMB licences. It can address a range of common IT problems, including application faults, update errors, file access issues, and device performance problems.

Human oversight

Under TeamViewer's model, the IT support worker remains responsible for authorising action. Tia requests approval before carrying out a fix, and the user can also step in directly during a session when needed.

That approval step is central to how the product is positioned. Each action Tia takes, along with the related approval, is recorded to give IT and security teams a full audit trail of what changed and why.

Those records are integrated into Session Insights tools, which are designed to give organisations visibility across support sessions handled by a person, by Tia, or by a combination of both. Administrators can also set different operating limits for different teams, allowing some users to access advice only while others can permit approved fixes to be implemented.

During a support session, Tia draws on device data, previous cases, and an internal library of known fixes. It can also generate diagnostic scripts if an issue needs deeper investigation.

Workflow shift

For IT departments, the addition points to a broader change in support workflows as AI tools move from assisting staff to carrying out parts of the process under supervision. TeamViewer said less experienced support workers could use the system as a structured troubleshooting route based on prior cases, while senior staff could use it to reduce time spent on routine fixes and complex investigations.

The company also argued that quicker troubleshooting could help improve first-contact resolution rates for employees seeking support, reducing the number of cases that need to be escalated.

That reflects a wider pattern in workplace technology, where software suppliers are trying to introduce more automated actions without removing human control altogether. TeamViewer cited its own global research showing that, among respondents willing to let AI take action, most preferred a review-and-approve model rather than fully autonomous operation.

The same research found that IT leaders expect close to 40% of digital workplace services to operate without manual input by 2030, while more than a quarter said some degree of that is already in place.

"Tia Troubleshooting shows where we believe AI in IT is heading: toward greater autonomy, but with the controls that make it practical for organisations," said Mei Dent, Chief Product and Technology Officer at TeamViewer.

"IT teams shouldn't have to choose between doing everything manually and fully handing over control to AI. Governed autonomy offers a balanced way to expand AI's involvement as trust develops, and that's the direction we're building with Tia," Dent said.

The product enters a market where software vendors are trying to differentiate their IT management platforms through embedded AI tools that can cut support workloads and standardise repetitive tasks. The challenge has been to show that such systems can act usefully without creating governance or security concerns, particularly in remote access environments where changes to endpoints can have immediate operational consequences.

By keeping approval with the technician and logging each step, TeamViewer is trying to address that concern directly. Its emphasis on recorded approvals and action histories suggests it sees auditability as a necessary condition for broader use of AI in support functions.

It also underlines the importance of operational controls as organisations test how much authority they are prepared to give software agents. In practice, that may mean some teams use Tia only as a recommendation engine, while others allow it to complete fixes after sign-off, depending on their security policies and support model.

For TeamViewer, the launch extends its effort to move beyond remote access into a broader set of IT support and endpoint management services. More than 600,000 customers use its products, according to the company, spanning small businesses and large enterprises.

Administrators can decide how far Tia is allowed to go for different teams, from advice-only use to implementing approved fixes.
