Targa Telematics has launched Vehicle Delivery Monitoring for leasing companies, using Agentic AI to track vehicle delivery workflows.

The system targets a part of the leasing market in which manufacturers, brokers, logistics providers and delivery centres often handle different stages of a vehicle handover. It is designed to give leasing companies a clearer view across that chain, from production and transport to preparation at the delivery centre.

Vehicle Delivery Monitoring combines data from leasing companies' management systems with information from in-vehicle devices. This allows operators to check whether a vehicle's reported status matches its actual position in the delivery process.

The approach is intended to address a common issue in outsourced delivery models, particularly in the UK, where leasing groups may rely on third parties for transport, preparation and handover. When data is fragmented or updated late, delays and administrative errors can affect contract activation, customer service and internal costs.

The system can identify whether a vehicle is still at the manufacturer, in transit, at a delivery centre or already in operation. It can also flag anomalies, including vehicles sent to the wrong centre, vehicles marked as operational while still in delivery, delays in compliance activity, washing or telematics installation, and missing documents needed for contract activation.

Workflow visibility

Targa Telematics is positioning the system as a way for leasing operators to move away from self-reported updates and towards live operational data. In practice, this means alerts can be sent when a process appears to have stalled or when records do not match a vehicle's actual status.

For leasing companies, contract activation is one of the most immediate operational pressure points. If documentation is incomplete or a handover step is delayed, the start of a contract can slip, creating knock-on effects for revenue recognition, insurance cover and customer delivery schedules.

The product is also designed to reduce insurance risk by helping prevent vehicles from circulating without the correct cover in place. The software can also automate tasks such as reminders and document checks, which are often handled manually across multiple parties.

Targa Telematics said the platform will be expanded over time with additional functions. One example in development is a predictive model that would estimate monthly contract activations by analysing the past performance of individual delivery centres.

Market pressure

The launch comes as mobility and leasing groups face a more layered delivery environment, with more intermediaries involved between the fleet operator and the end driver. Targa Telematics cited research involving more than 120 mobility operators in Italy, which found that the growing use of intermediaries was weakening direct relationships between leasing companies and customers.

According to the study, 61% of respondents said their understanding of customer needs had declined. They also reported weaker alignment between services and customer requirements, along with a deterioration in perceived service quality.

The findings illustrate a broader issue for fleet and leasing businesses: the more delivery management is spread across separate providers, the harder it becomes to identify where delays begin and who is responsible for fixing them. Systems that can reconcile operational data with administrative workflow records are becoming more relevant as companies seek tighter control over handovers.

Targa Telematics, which operates in connected mobility, telematics and IoT-based fleet services, said Vehicle Delivery Monitoring is intended for multiple markets, not just the UK. The company has operations across several European countries as well as Chile, and provides services to rental groups, financial companies and large fleets.

Chris Horbowyj, UK commercial director at Targa Telematics, framed the launch in the context of the leasing sector's delivery challenges. "As the UK mobility ecosystem becomes increasingly complex and fragmented, it is critical for leasing companies to leverage advanced solutions that enable a smarter, more efficient and cost-effective management of the vehicle delivery process," he said.

He added: "Vehicle Delivery Monitoring, our latest, cutting-edge, solution aims to support leasing companies in navigating this evolving landscape, unlocking the power of Agentic AI and real-time data to elevate the quality of the services offered and customer satisfaction. Once again, our services show how telematics can play a pivotal role in shaping operators' business models."
