Parcel Pending teams with Chelmsford Star Co-op for parcel lockers

Wed, 21st Aug 2024

Parcel Pending by Quadient has announced a partnership with Chelmsford Star Co-op to install its multicarrier parcel lockers across multiple locations for the convenience retailer. The first installation will be at Chelmsford Star Co-op’s store on Bridge Street in Writtle.

The partnership is designed to provide local residents and customers with a reliable, convenient, and secure way to send and receive parcels. By reducing the distance couriers need to drive to multiple addresses, this initiative also aims to help cut traffic levels on local roads.

This collaboration follows a recent similar agreement between Quadient and East of England Co-op, demonstrating a growing interest in accessible parcel solutions in the region.

Discussing the partnership, Katia Bourgeais-Crmel, Director of Lockers Automation Platform Europe at Quadient, expressed her enthusiasm: "We are proud to partner with Chelmsford Star Co-op in this initiative. Our focus remains on expanding the reach and usage of our open locker network to provide a seamless and sustainable pickup and delivery experience for both businesses and consumers. Parcel Pending by Quadient smart lockers have become an increasingly integral part of UK consumer habits, offering value and convenience in their daily lives."

The planned installation of the first Parcel Pending locker at the Bridge Street location marks a significant milestone. This store, which has recently been refurbished, is known for its high footfall and ample parking, making it an ideal site for the introduction of the locker service. This location is just the beginning, with plans to expand the service across Chelmsford Star Co-op’s estate.

Chris Harden, Central Operations Manager for Chelmsford Star Co-op, added: “By offering convenient and accessible parcel collection services, we are transforming our stores into community hubs that cater to a broader range of daily needs. We believe that the integration of Quadient’s parcel lockers will not only streamline parcel pickup and delivery but also foster stronger connections within our communities by making our stores a go-to destination for various services.”

This initiative forms part of Chelmsford Star Co-op's "More than Just a Shop" campaign, which seeks to expand the range of services available in its convenience stores. In addition to standard shopping needs, customers can utilise these locations for various other services, including parcel collection, lottery, and PayPoint.

The introduction of multicarrier parcel lockers is a key component of Chelmsford Star Co-op’s strategy to offer enhanced convenience and a broader range of services to its customers and members.

The collaboration aims to underscore Chelmsford Star Co-op’s commitment to evolving and enhancing customer experience by integrating innovative solutions that align with the needs of today's consumers. Future updates will detail the rollout of more services and conveniences within their stores as the partnership progresses.
