Novatech has become the UK's first certified Proxmox training partner, expanding accredited Proxmox training options for channel partners.

The certification comes as resellers and customers review their virtualisation strategies and look for alternatives to proprietary platforms. Proxmox is an open-source virtualisation platform for running and managing virtual machines and containers on private infrastructure.

Novatech says the new status will enable it to provide accredited training to resellers and channel partners looking to build in-house Proxmox expertise. The training will sit alongside its existing work in infrastructure assessment, migration planning, implementation and UK-based support.

The development comes during a period of disruption in the virtualisation market following Broadcom's acquisition of VMware. As contracts come up for renewal, vendors, resellers and end users have been reassessing infrastructure costs, licensing models, vendor dependency and long-term flexibility.

That shift has created new demands on the channel. Partners are being asked not only to compare platforms, but also to guide customers through the operational and commercial implications of migration.

Novatech says the training offer is intended to address a skills gap for resellers that want to advise on Proxmox deployments. Customers need reassurance that any move to a new virtualisation platform can be planned and delivered effectively, while partners need the technical grounding to support those discussions.

Alex Tatham, IT channel consultant, exec and non-exec director at Novatech, outlined that case.

“Training is a critical part of giving organisations confidence to make a change to their virtualisation environment,” said Alex Tatham, IT channel consultant, exec and non-exec director at Novatech.

“For resellers, it's not simply about understanding a different technology platform, but being able to have informed conversations with customers, understand their requirements and support them through what can be a significant infrastructure transition. Becoming the UK's first certified Proxmox training partner means we can help channel partners build that capability themselves, while also providing the engineering expertise they can draw on when projects require additional support,” Tatham said.

Channel demand

Novatech's position in the Proxmox ecosystem has grown as organisations seek more control over infrastructure choices. Its role is to support partners through training and engineering support, rather than displace them in customer relationships.

That matters for resellers weighing whether to build specialist skills internally or rely on external engineering help for more complex projects. Combining both options can reduce delivery risk while allowing partners to retain ownership of the account.

David Furby, Chief Executive Officer of Novatech, said the market opportunity depends on whether partners can speak credibly to customers about migration.

“There's a real opportunity for the channel here, but partners need to be able to take their customers on that journey with confidence,” said David Furby, Chief Executive Officer of Novatech.

“Training is an important part of that. It gives partners the knowledge to understand Proxmox properly, assess where it fits and have credible conversations with customers about what migration could mean for their business. Our role is to support partners rather than compete with them. Whether they need to build their own Proxmox capability through training or bring in additional engineering expertise for a complex project, we can help them develop the skills and resources they need to support their customers,” Furby said.

Broader shift

Novatech's move also reflects a broader repositioning beyond its hardware background. Over the past decade, it has built engineering capabilities across enterprise infrastructure, AI platforms, high-performance computing and secure IT environments.

The Proxmox training certification also fits a wider industry shift towards open-source and open-standards-based infrastructure, particularly among organisations seeking more direct control over software choices and less exposure to a single vendor. For channel businesses, that trend can open new service lines in assessment, migration and ongoing support.

Founded in 1987, Novatech works with enterprise, corporate and public sector customers in the UK and overseas. Its customer base includes Octopus Energy, Monzo, the University of Oxford and Imperial College.

The company already held Proxmox Gold Partner status in the UK, and the training certification adds a formal education role to that relationship.
