Genetec has been ranked the global market leader in video management software by Omdia and Novaira Insights. Both research firms also reported that the company increased its market share in 2025.

Omdia said Genetec grew 20% while the video software and VSaaS market grew 13.3%. The vendors in second and third place ended the year flat or down, according to the firm.

The findings strengthen Genetec's standing in a market that includes video surveillance software, cloud-delivered video services and related support agreements. Novaira Insights ranked the company number one worldwide in total video surveillance software and service agreements, excluding China.

Novaira's data also highlighted its regional position. Genetec held the top spot in the Americas for the 15th consecutive year, recorded the largest market share growth among the top 10 vendors in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and remained in the top three in Asia Pacific, excluding China.

Market shift

Omdia's assessment pointed to changing buying patterns in physical security technology. Organisations are increasingly seeking systems that can be deployed across cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments without requiring separate software stacks.

Omdia described the trend as buyer consolidation.

"Growth in this market is not evenly distributed," said Paul Bremner, Practise Leader for Physical Security at Omdia. "Buyers are consolidating around vendors that can deliver cloud, on-premises, and hybrid from a single open platform, and those vendors are taking share from ones that cannot."

That dynamic has become more important as companies and public sector bodies review older surveillance estates and seek to connect video systems with broader security and IT requirements. Video management software sits at the centre of those deployments, handling recording, monitoring and system administration across sites and devices.

Genetec is based in Montreal and sells physical security software to enterprises, governments and public bodies. Its wider product range includes access control, automatic number plate recognition, intrusion detection, intercom and digital evidence management.

Regional gains

The dual ranking from Omdia and Novaira Insights suggests Genetec's gains were not limited to one geography or segment of the market. Novaira's findings on service agreements are notable because they point to strength not only in software shipments but also in the recurring commercial relationships tied to surveillance systems.

Research groups track the sector closely because it reflects broader changes in how organisations run physical security operations. Many end users are replacing isolated systems with platforms that can be managed centrally, while also weighing cybersecurity, privacy controls and integration with other operational tools.

In that context, market share shifts can show where spending is concentrating as customers reduce the number of suppliers they use. Omdia's figures point to above-market growth for Genetec at a time when some of its nearest rivals were not expanding at the same pace.

Christian Morin, a senior executive at the company, said the results reflected demand from large organisations updating their estates.

"The world's most demanding organizations are choosing Genetec as they modernize their security," said Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec. "They need a system of record built to IT standards, one that runs at enterprise scale and does not lock them in. They are choosing a platform they can build their future on, and our continued share gains show it."

The market covered by the rankings is worth several billion dollars globally and includes software used to manage camera networks, associated analytics and remotely delivered video surveillance services. Growth has been supported by upgrades to existing estates as well as newer demand for flexible deployment models across distributed sites.

Genetec said it serves more than 42,500 customers in over 159 countries through a network of channel partners and consultants. That installed base helps explain why analyst firms monitor the company's position closely when measuring share across software and service contracts.

The latest rankings place Genetec ahead of its peers in a market where buyers are consolidating around vendors that can deliver cloud, on-premises and hybrid from a single open platform, according to Omdia.
