Emirates partners with OpenAI to drive AI adoption across airline
Emirates has entered a collaboration with OpenAI to implement artificial intelligence across its operations. The partnership includes the deployment of ChatGPT Enterprise throughout the airline group, alongside new training initiatives and exploration of AI applications in aviation.
AI integration
The agreement will see AI embedded in Emirates' core activities. The company will receive early access to research and new use cases from OpenAI, focusing on the application of advanced language models to airline operations. This includes dedicated executive sessions, technical exploration, and the development of an AI Centre of Excellence.
Staff training
Emirates will launch tailored AI literacy programmes to familiarise its workforce with emerging technologies. These programmes are aimed at building internal expertise and ensuring the group's employees can leverage AI tools in their various roles. An internal champion network will also be created to facilitate AI adoption across departments.
Operational applications
The collaboration involves closely working teams from both companies to identify practical use cases for generative AI. Areas under review include customer service, operational efficiency, and new business processes supported by AI capabilities. Experiments will be undertaken in dedicated sandbox environments to accelerate prototyping and adoption of new tools.
Leadership alignment
Dedicated leadership sessions are planned to explore how AI could be practically applied across the airline's ecosystem. These sessions will provide the company's executives with direct insight into OpenAI's research roadmap, supporting Emirates' longer-term technology and business strategies. Both companies will also work together on innovation projects and government-led accelerators.
Future focus
The partnership places emphasis on expanding Emirates' AI capabilities across critical skills and technologies. This covers process optimisation, talent development, and technology rollouts designed to support the company's transition towards greater digital integration.
"We see enormous potential for AI technology to support our business requirements, helping us tackle complex commercial challenges, strengthening our operations, and enhancing the customer experience. Closely working with OpenAI will make our technology investments both strategic and scalable, enabling us to deliver enhanced value to our employees and customers, fundamentally changing how we innovate, deliver value, and maintain our competitive edge in the industry," said Ali Serdar Yakut, Executive Vice President IT, Emirates.
"Emirates Group has laid out a bold vision for how AI can transform the future of aviation. With this collaboration, we're proud to help them bring that vision to life - embedding intelligence across their operations, empowering teams with powerful new tools, and reimagining the travel experience for millions of customers," said Rod Solaimani, Regional Director, MENA & Central Asia, OpenAI.
