ControlUp enhances digital experience support for ChromeOS

Tue, 19th Nov 2024

ControlUp has announced that its Digital Employee Experience (DEX) platform now supports Google ChromeOS, offering new capabilities for both virtual desktops and physical endpoints.

The platform's new support aims to provide detailed insights into the performance of ChromeOS devices, particularly when used as primary workspaces or as clients accessing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and Desktop as a Service (DaaS). This enhancement equips enterprise IT teams with robust real-time analytics and automated remediation tools necessary for optimising the use of Chromebooks in the digital workspace.

Guy Weintraub, Vice President of Product at ControlUp, noted the challenges enterprises face as they enter a new cycle of desktop hardware refreshes. "Four years after the rapid adoption of new desktop hardware for work-from-home needs driven by Covid 19, many enterprises are now entering a new desktop hardware refresh cycle, but the cost of replacing large estates of laptops is significant," he said. "Chromebooks are increasingly considered a more cost-effective option for digital workers that rely largely on SaaS-based applications. However, the lack of access to DEX solutions that optimise the employee experience on these ChromeOS-powered devices has been a barrier to adoption. ControlUp is addressing that with new comprehensive DEX platform support that can monitor, analyse, and remediate key metrics critical to delivering a superior Chromebook experience."

The newly enhanced ControlUp DEX platform offers support for ChromeOS, alongside connectivity to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CAVD). This allows enterprise IT departments visibility into critical performance metrics such as CPU load, Wi-Fi signal strength, packet loss, and end-to-end latency, enabling prompt detection and resolution of any employee experience issues on Google Chromebooks, irrespective of the user's location.

A key feature of this release is the ControlUp ChromeOS DEX browser plugin, which facilitates maintaining high performance and reliability for ChromeOS devices running applications anywhere. Organisations can leverage this tool to ensure their ChromeOS devices run efficiently.

Naveen Viswanatha, Director of Product Management for ChromeOS, remarked on the benefits of the new support for enterprise IT teams: "ChromeOS is designed to deliver secure, fast, and scalable computing for businesses, and now with the ControlUp's DEX platform, IT teams have the enhanced visibility they need to more efficiently manage employee experiences on ChromeOS devices," he stated. "By offering real-time insights into device performance and user experience, ControlUp is addressing a key need for enterprise IT, enabling them to confidently adopt Chromebooks as a primary device. This support will help drive continued ChromeOS adoption in the enterprise, delivering greater productivity and cost-efficiency for digital workforces everywhere."

The ControlUp platform with enhanced support for Google ChromeOS will be available later this month. This initiative represents ControlUp's efforts to broaden its DEX management capabilities, focusing on providing real-time visibility and faster issue resolution for IT teams globally.
