Adobe launches Photoshop app for iPhone, Android soon
Adobe has announced the return of Photoshop for mobile use, bringing advanced image editing and design tools to iPhone users, with plans to launch on Android later this year.
The new mobile app provides core imaging functionalities such as layering, masking, and the Firefly-powered Generative Fill, aiming to make professional image editing accessible to users on the go. It offers both free and premium access, catering to a diverse audience of creators.
The app's development focuses on welcoming a new generation of image and design enthusiasts to Photoshop, offering them the ability to edit anywhere and access their projects from the convenience of their phones. This user-friendly interface seeks to provide existing customers with the flexibility to work on creative projects whenever inspiration strikes.
In conjunction with the mobile app, Adobe introduced the Photoshop Mobile and Web plan. This initiative enhances editing capabilities with precise selections, advanced colour corrections, and commercially safe AI tools powered by Firefly. These tools come with Content Credentials to ensure transparency and responsible AI use, reflecting Adobe's commitment to ethical AI innovation.
"We're excited to bring the limitless creative possibilities of Photoshop to mobile, making the app's iconic image editing and design capabilities accessible for everyone from professional artists and designers to a whole new generation of creators trying Photoshop for the first time," stated Ashley Still, Senior Vice President, Digital Media at Adobe. "Photoshop's new mobile and web apps unlock next generation creativity, empowering creators to bring to life gorgeous photos, rich graphics and incredible art anytime, anywhere."
The new offering empowers creators by enabling seamless project work across multiple devices, including mobile, web, and desktop platforms. Enhancements to Photoshop on the web include a more seamless user interface and wide browser compatibility, enabling users to integrate directly with Adobe Stock's vast library of assets.
The mobile app, designed specifically for phones, offers features like advanced removal tools and integration with Adobe's suite of creative apps, which include Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Lightroom. Furthermore, users can benefit from the inclusion of generative AI tools such as Generative Fill and Expand, facilitating efficient photo edits and creative augmentation.
Photoshop on iPhone is compatible with current Photoshop applications across desktop, web, and iPad, supporting creators who wish to initiate or edit projects ubiquitously. The mobile app aims to cater to both emerging creators and established professionals in various fields including fashion, music, and traditional design.
The introduction of this mobile app marks a significant step in providing powerful image editing tools for free to mobile users, enhancing the creative process with customisable tools and advanced AI functionalities. The app is anticipated to empower users to achieve remarkable visuals with ease and flexibility.
Adobe remains committed to innovation that prioritises the needs of creators, pledging to ensure its AI developments align with principles of accountability, responsibility, and transparency. Firefly's commercial safety and Content Credentials are part of this trust-building approach.
The free Photoshop mobile app provides premium options via a new Photoshop Mobile and Web plan, priced at USD $7.99/month or USD $69.99 annually, including additional features and access across devices. The app is now available worldwide in the Apple App Store, with an Android version expected later in the year.
