Zamna & Iberojet cut check-in times & eliminate fines with AI

Wed, 10th Sep 2025

Zamna has rolled out its patented identity infrastructure with Iberojet to streamline passenger document verification and reduce check-in times across long-haul routes.

The new system enables Iberojet, a Spanish and Portuguese carrier operating flights to Latin America and the Caribbean, to pre-validate and authenticate passenger documents before travel. Zamna's proprietary artificial intelligence engine checks passports, visas, and other necessary paperwork days or weeks before the passenger arrives at the airport, matching destination-specific entry requirements.

The deployment is a key component of Iberojet's digital transformation initiative, designed to reduce manual checks, decrease airport queues, and enhance compliance efficiency amid increasingly complex international travel regulations. Zamna's system integrates directly into Iberojet's revamped online check-in service, requesting supporting documents as necessary and validating them according to current travel rules.

Operational impact

Since launching in partnership with Zamna, Iberojet has seen measurable operational benefits. According to data from the first quarter, 80% of online check-in passengers passed through the Zamna system. Of these, more than 90% were fully validated for travel before arriving at the airport. The introduction of the technology enabled Iberojet to identify and address identification discrepancies before passenger arrival, reducing last-minute issues and minimising the need for manual intervention by airport staff.

The implementation also eliminated documentation-related fines, with 100% of such financial penalties removed in the first period of operation. Zamna's model distinguishes itself by assuming complete financial responsibility for any penalties related to failed verifications, removing this liability from the airline.

Irra Ariella Khi, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at Zamna, highlighted the importance of transferring the regulatory burden away from airlines, noting the company's commitment to ongoing liability for document validation accuracy.

"This deployment isn't just about smoother check-in; it's about taking the regulatory and financial liability for doc checks away from airlines. We are not only automating checks against travel rules and unlocking digital boarding passes. Zamna removes 100% of fines from invalid visas, mismatched IDs, or missed eTAs. As travel rules tighten, and more destinations impose strict and fast-changing entry requirements, airlines need solutions that guarantee compliance at scale. Zamna does exactly that and we take full liability for getting it right."

Check-in efficiency

The technology has led to a reduction of over 50% in passenger check-in times, supporting efforts to improve passenger experience and ease pressure on frontline teams. The system operates quietly in the background, seamlessly managing compliance even in more complex travel cases.

Toni Pou Mir, BT and IT Director at Iberojet, commented on the real-time benefits the deployment has provided to passengers and staff, specifically referring to the streamlined check-in operations.

"We've seen the potential of this tool firsthand - reducing the check-in process from over an hour to under thirty minutes. We witnessed it happen in real time. Partnering with Zamna has eased the pressure on our frontline teams, reduced queues, and made the process more intuitive for passengers. Even in complex cases, the system manages compliance seamlessly in the background, allowing our staff to focus their time and energy where it truly matters. It's a smarter, more human way to operate."

Regulatory adaptation

The Zamna platform is designed to automatically update in response to regulatory changes, including upcoming frameworks such as the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) and Entry/Exit System (EES). This allows airlines to remain compliant as rules evolve without additional operational overhead. Zamna reports that its platform has been used to validate over 70 million documents in live airline settings, across 2,500 document types covering more than 140 countries.

Currently, the Zamna system is active on Iberojet's outbound long-haul services from the Iberian Peninsula, with plans to expand to inbound European flights and additional destinations in the near future. The collaboration aims to mitigate further risks associated with document validation and adapt to evolving border controls as international travel continues to evolve.
