Sterling unveils Smart Builder for construction efficiency

Today

Sterling has announced the launch of Smart Builder, a tool developed to enhance construction estimation processes for cost and carbon management.

The tool allows users to link various project structures using a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface, simplifying the creation of Cost Plans, Bills of Quantities, and Estimates. This development comes as Sterling responds to long-standing challenges in traditional estimating solutions with input from advisory groups.

Steve Brunning, CEO of Sterling DCS, said, "At Sterling, we believe that simplicity should drive performance. Smart Builder embodies our commitment to providing powerful tools that enhance the estimator's experience while maintaining the integrity of complex data. By avoiding the constant flipping between processes, users can now copy one, many, or entire preferred structures seamlessly. The team has extended this functionality to allow for easy switching between structures and resources at any time, which will save a significant amount of time and reduce errors. This feature not only reduces friction in the estimating process but also empowers users to take control of their projects with confidence."

Smart Builder introduces capabilities for users to incorporate asset structures like buildings, nesting multiple breakdown structures beneath them. This aims to enhance clarity and organisation within the estimating process, allowing for both overview and detailed inspection as required.

Several key features underpin the Smart Builder's proposition. The tool supports rapid cost plan formulation, a critical feature for the fast-paced construction industry, by allowing users to quantify and price at any level. This process is facilitated by the ability to quickly select preferred structures.

The tool also simplifies the validation process. Users can apply drag-and-drop techniques for individual lines or entire sections of NRM2 into their cost plans, along with their IDs for rule-based validation. This method enhances validation accuracy, reducing potential errors.

Another significant feature is the simplified resource selection, which streamlines the process of managing complex resources and pricing. This aspect is particularly useful for estimators dealing with a variety of resources across multiple projects.

Smart Builder ensures transparency in merging cost estimates by establishing the project structure using NRM1 for any level of quantifying and pricing. As project details emerge, users can incorporate a wide array of NRM2, SMM7, and CESSM structures within the tool, ensuring consistency across estimates.

James Hunter, CTO of Sterling DCS, commented on the launch, stating, "We are delighted to launch Smart Builder. Our goal was to create a solution that bridges the gap between simplicity and powerful functionality. With Smart Builder, we are enabling our users to formulate accurate estimates efficiently, paving the way for more sustainable construction practices. The feedback we've received during the testing phase has been overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing our belief that Smart Builder will set a new standard in the industry."

Additionally, Smart Builder offers customisable reporting structures, enabling estimates to be pivoted to preferred formats. This assists stakeholders in accessing data in a suitable manner for informed decision-making. The intuitive design removes the need for multiple windows or forms, making the workflow more efficient.

Sterling's launch of Smart Builder marks a significant step in its mission to innovate construction estimating processes, leveraging advanced technology and user-focused design to tackle industry challenges. Sterling commits to providing ongoing support, including training and resources, helping users to maximise the potential of Smart Builder. The company aims to ensure all users benefit from its functionalities through comprehensive support services.
