Cybit sells Cybit Cyber to Viatel as both firms focus on growth

Today

Cybit has completed the sale of its enterprise-grade security division, Cybit Cyber, to Viatel Technology Group.

The transaction sees Cybit Cyber, which was formerly known as Cyphra, join Viatel Technology Group, a digital services provider based in Dublin. The decision is positioned by both organisations as a strategic shift, allowing each to focus on different segments and growth opportunities within their respective markets.

Focus shifts

Cybit stated that the divestment allows it to focus more closely on providing tailored technology solutions and managed services in the areas of data intelligence, artificial intelligence, hybrid cloud, modern workspace and security, particularly aimed at the mid-market corporate and SME segment.

The company clarified that, following the divestment, it will continue to work alongside Cybit Cyber on specific initiatives where their expertise aligns, with the aim of maintaining continuity for existing customers and partners.

This decision marks a significant milestone in Cybit's evolution. By focusing our efforts on our core mid-market strategy, we are better positioned to deliver innovation and value to our customers. We are proud of the legacy and expertise built within Cybit Cyber and are confident that under Viatel's leadership, the team will continue to thrive. We remain committed to supporting our customers, partners, and employees throughout this transition and look forward to future collaboration opportunities.

These were the remarks of James Hunnybourne, Executive Chair of Cybit, who highlighted the opportunity for Cybit to further specialise while remaining confident in the future direction of Cybit Cyber under new ownership.

Complementary strengths

Viatel Technology Group's Chief Executive Officer, Paul Rellis, commented on the acquisition, focusing on how Cybit Cyber's expertise fits within the wider group. "We are delighted to welcome Cybit Cyber into the Viatel family. Its deep expertise in enterprise-grade cybersecurity perfectly complements our existing capabilities and strengthens our position as a trusted digital transformation partner. This acquisition reinforces our commitment to delivering secure, scalable, and innovative solutions to businesses across Ireland and beyond."

Viatel Technology Group operates in the digital transformation sector, serving businesses and public sector clients, and now expands its cybersecurity capabilities through the addition of Cybit Cyber.

New opportunities

Cybit Cyber's Managing Director, Paddy Trainor, emphasised the benefits for his team and its customers, stating, "Joining Viatel Technology Group is an exciting new chapter for Cybit Cyber. Our team has built a strong reputation over many years for delivering trusted cybersecurity solutions to enterprise and public sector clients. Now, with Viatel's backing, we are well-positioned to accelerate our growth and looking forward to expanding our capabilities to deliver even more value to our customers."

Cybit Cyber is known within the market for delivering security services to enterprise and public sector organisations. The move is expected by both companies to result in a more focused approach to growth and strategy, with Viatel bringing additional resources and a broader platform for expansion.

Ongoing collaboration

Although the entities will now operate independently, Cybit and Cybit Cyber indicated there would be continued collaboration on joint opportunities. Both teams stressed the intention to provide continuity and maintain the delivery of value for customers and partners across the two businesses.

This divestment reflects Cybit's overall strategy to concentrate on its core business, unlocking potential growth opportunities in technology and managed services, while allowing Cybit Cyber to develop its cybersecurity specialism under Viatel's ownership.
