Pure Storage unveils innovations to enhance data storage

Today

Pure Storage has announced a series of innovations aimed at augmenting enterprises' data storage capabilities. The company introduced these advancements, highlighting its commitment to addressing the needs of modern data-intensive workloads. Among the newly unveiled features are Real-time Enterprise File services, a virtual machine (VM) assessment tool, and a novel Universal Credits system.

The Real-time Enterprise File service is designed to dynamically adapt and reconfigure to meet the demands of fast-paced applications. Traditional file storage systems often struggle with inflexible architectures and management complexities, leading to challenges in supporting evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). This new service aims to provide agility and simplicity, allowing organisations to respond swiftly to application demands.

Ajay Singh, Chief Product Officer at Pure Storage, said, "In today's fast-paced business environment, data-intensive applications demand more than legacy file storage can offer. For years, outdated and rigid legacy file storage has done customers a huge disservice by holding them back and forcing them towards frequent technology refresh cycles. Through the Pure Storage platform, Real-time Enterprise File along with the new VM assessment and Universal Credits empowers our customers to navigate today's fast-moving, complex business environment with confidence."

Additionally, the Real-time Enterprise File service offers several features to enhance operational efficiency. These include real-time agility across storage resources, zero-move tiering, and non-disruptive upgrades. The service supports the new FlashBlade//S100, an AI-ready platform with GPUDirect support tailored for entry-level enterprise use cases such as AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and Edge applications.

In a move to support IT decision-makers, Pure Storage introduced a new virtual machine (VM) assessment tool. This tool optimises virtualisation operations by providing performance monitoring, scenario planning, and rightsizing recommendations. The VM assessment is free to customers with a Pure1 subscription.

Singh explained, "As virtualisation environments face increasing uncertainty and disruption, the Pure Storage platform offers an industry-first VM Assessment to help IT decision-makers on modernising their virtualisation operations for critical workloads. Unique to our industry, VM Assessment offers performance monitoring, enhanced scenario planning, and rightsizing recommendations through Pure1."

Expanding its Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) offerings, Pure Storage unveiled Universal Credits. This system allows businesses to purchase a pool of credits applicable across various services without being tied to specific subscriptions. This new system aims to provide financial flexibility and predictability, enabling customers to leverage volume discounts by purchasing Universal Credits. These credits can then be used across services such as Evergreen//One, Pure Cloud Block Store, and Portworx.

Matt Kimball, Vice President and Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, remarked on the impact of these innovations: "Storage modernisation is a critical imperative for the data-driven modern business. A simplified storage environment easily accessed and managed is a must-have for organisations measured by time to market. Pure Storage's highly differentiated platform has changed customers' perception of what a modern storage infrastructure can deliver. The introduction of Real-time Enterprise File and the extension of its STaaS capabilities further solidifies Pure's leadership in the market."
