One Identity will become an independent company and set its global headquarters in Cork, Ireland.

The move marks a structural change for the cyber security group, which focuses on identity governance and privileged access management. Both areas have expanded as businesses manage growing numbers of users, applications and automated systems.

The decision was driven by growth in what One Identity described as a unified identity governance market. It also pointed to rising identity-related security demands as organisations contend with more complex software estates, tighter regulation and a sharp increase in non-human identities such as software agents and automated workflows.

Industry estimates cited by One Identity suggest the combined markets for identity governance and administration and privileged access management are worth about USD $10 billion. It said KuppingerCole valued the privileged access management market alone at USD $5.4 billion, while Gartner estimated the identity governance and administration market grew 10.7% between 2024 and 2025.

One Identity is shifting its formal base to Cork as Europe takes on greater weight in its operations. More than 80% of its engineering organisation is based in Europe, according to the company, with leadership roles spread across the region.

That footprint has grown alongside demand from large European customers and a tougher regulatory climate. Rules including NIS2 and DORA have increased scrutiny of identity governance and access controls, particularly for larger businesses and critical sectors.

The decision also reflects One Identity's existing investment in the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland and other parts of Europe. Cork has long served as a regional office for the business.

Market shift

Identity security has become a central part of cyber defence as attacks increasingly target credentials, permissions and access pathways rather than traditional network perimeters. The rise of artificial intelligence tools and automated business processes has added another layer of complexity by creating large volumes of machine-based identities that also require oversight.

Praerit Garg, Chief Executive Officer of One Identity, linked the company's independence to those market changes.

"Identity is now the control plane for enterprise security. Almost all security breaches can be traced back to identity compromises. Most organizations are still governing it with tools that were built for a different era. AI is accelerating the problem faster than most organizations realize: every agent and every automated workflow are identities that need to be governed. Our customers are dealing with environments that are more distributed and harder to govern than anything legacy frameworks were designed for. Operating as a standalone company gives us the focus this problem requires and the speed our customers demand," said Garg.

Its senior leadership team will continue to lead the business through the transition. Recent appointments include Mike Henricks as Chief Financial & Operating Officer, Randy Menon as Chief Product & Marketing Officer and Gihan Munasinghe as Chief Technology Officer.

Cork role

The choice of Cork as global headquarters underlines how far the company's operating centre has shifted towards Europe. Ireland remains a significant base for multinational technology groups, particularly those serving European customers under a growing body of digital and cyber regulation.

Brid Doyle, Cork office leader and Director of Global Sales Operations, said the new headquarters status formalised an existing reality inside the business.

"As a long-time regional office, Cork has been an important part of One Identity operations for many years. This decision reflects the reality of how the company operates today and how we believe we can best serve our customers all over the world," said Doyle.

One Identity said it is used by 80 of the Fortune 100, underscoring the scale of the customer base it will carry into its next phase as a standalone business.
