Metapack launches tool to cut cross-border retail shipping costs

Mon, 11th Aug 2025

Metapack has introduced a Consolidated Clearance solution designed to help retailers reduce cross-border shipping costs and manage increasing tariff pressures.

The Consolidated Clearance product targets the growing complexity of international eCommerce, as many direct-to-consumer retailers experience rising landed product costs in response to new tariffs. According to Metapack, nearly half (49%) of such brands have seen a significant increase in these costs due to tariff changes, underscoring the need for streamlined solutions.

The Consolidated Clearance tool enables businesses to process multiple international parcels under one customs entry. By grouping shipments, retailers can reduce paperwork and associated clearance fees, such as merchandise processing and other government agency costs. This approach aims to facilitate smoother customs procedures and boost overall efficiency.

"Metapack's launch of our Consolidated Clearance solution arrives at a pivotal moment as tariff conversations intensify and operational margins tighten," said Emma Clarke, Senior Director of Product Management at Metapack. "This product is built to help retailers significantly save money on shipping across hard economic borders by simplifying processes and integrating seamlessly into existing workflows without disruption."

This solution not only cuts costs but is designed to integrate with existing retail operations, minimising any disruption during adoption. Metapack states that retailers can allocate less time to administrative processes, allowing them to bring products to market more quickly and economically.

Benefits and efficiencies

Retailers using the new service may benefit from improved inventory coordination and enhanced shipment tracking. By moving parcels in consolidated batches, the likelihood of delay is reduced, while the risk of misplacing items decreases. The solution is positioned as a way for retailers to optimise their shipping schedules and ensure a smoother process from dispatch to delivery.

Sustainability is also a consideration, with Metapack highlighting that consolidated shipments support lower environmental impact by minimising the total number of parcel movements across borders. This may appeal to retailers with a focus on reducing their carbon footprint in their logistics.

With greater control and flexibility, the Consolidated Clearance feature enables businesses to concentrate on speed and cost efficiency without requiring a fundamental overhaul of their international shipping operations.

Target users

The service is expected to be especially useful to exporters dispatching multiple packages daily across borders, or those dealing regularly with countries where tariffs significantly impact margins. Larger value shippers, such as luxury, technology, and premium retail brands, are likely to see the greatest benefit, especially when their average basket value is higher than industry norms.

Emma Clarke noted that the solution is also suitable for retailers looking to simplify both their initial dispatch and final delivery processes. For those who have experienced constraints with existing warehouse or data handling capacities, the Consolidated Clearance product may help streamline their international logistics with minimal operational disruption or additional investment.

Operational context

Customs procedures and tariff calculations have become more burdensome for retailers due to shifting international trade policies and new fee structures. The Consolidated Clearance solution aims to respond to this landscape by simplifying cross-border movements and potentially abating some of the growing costs associated with international eCommerce.

With the launch, Metapack is positioning the service as a tool for retailers of varying sizes and sectors to navigate ongoing changes to the global trade environment, without major workflow or infrastructure changes.
