Lumera has completed two migration projects for Nordea Liv Norway, moving more than 58 million transactions to its cloud-based policy administration platform.

In the first half of 2026, the work also migrated more than 70,000 contracts and 163,000 investment accounts as Nordea Liv Norway continued a broader overhaul of its policy administration systems.

Lumera and Nordea Liv have been working since 2023 on a new platform for life and pensions policy administration in Norway. The latest migrations are part of that programme, which is due to continue through 2030.

The work covered planning, development, migration and production launch under Lumera's implementation and data migration approach. The scale of the project reflects the volume of customer and transaction data involved in moving core insurance and pensions administration to a new system.

Modernisation drive

For Nordea Liv Norway, the migration is part of a wider effort to replace older back-office systems and simplify its application landscape. The insurer said the new system is intended to support digital services while reducing underlying complexity.

Across the Nordic market, large insurers and pension providers have been updating long-running administration platforms to cut maintenance burdens and improve data handling. These projects are typically lengthy because they involve policy records, investment accounts and historical transactions that must be transferred with limited disruption.

In this case, the volumes were substantial. More than 58 million transactions were moved alongside tens of thousands of contracts and more than 163,000 investment accounts, making it a significant data migration within Norway's life and pensions sector.

Jonas Alfredson, Chief Executive Officer of Lumera Group, described the project's demands in a statement about the completed work.

"This project is a comprehensive undertaking, with large volumes of data and strict demands on quality and stability. Working closely with Nordea Liv, we have now completed two important migrations that lay the foundation for further modernisation and development," said Alfredson.

Long programme

The migration work forms part of a longer transformation programme that remains underway. Nordea Liv Norway is using the project to modernise a core system for life and pensions policy administration, an area that often relies on older technology across the insurance industry.

The latest milestone marks progress in a multi-year system replacement effort. By moving contracts, accounts and transaction histories to the new platform, the programme has advanced beyond planning into large-scale live migration.

Alfredson also linked the work to Lumera's position in the Nordic life and pensions market. "This implementation project demonstrates that Lumera has the technology, expertise and experience required to deliver complex migrations for the Nordic life and pensions market leaders," said Alfredson.

For Nordea Liv Norway, completing the two migrations marks a step toward further changes in the coming years. Core administration systems are central to product management, customer service, and regulatory reporting, so replacement projects can affect a broad range of operations.

Anders Granstad, Chief Executive Officer of Nordea Liv Norway, said the completed stage provides the insurer with a foundation for the next phase of work.

"This is an important milestone in the modernisation of our systems. Together with Lumera, we have completed an extensive migration that lays a solid foundation for further development and innovation," said Granstad.
