Building Connections Networking has launched the Landlords Choice Awards Liverpool 2027, a scheme to recognise tradespeople and property professionals through verified recommendations from landlords.

The awards cover 50 trade and property categories, including builders, plumbers, electricians, roofers, plasterers, decorators, cleaners, gardeners, architects and letting agents. Businesses that secure five or more verified votes from landlords or Property Managers who have used their services will receive a free 12-month recommended listing, even if they do not win their category.

Unlike conventional awards programmes, the model is designed to recognise more than a single winner in each category. Nominations, voting, participation and qualifying listings are free, and attendance at the awards evening is optional.

The initiative addresses a practical issue for landlords, particularly those managing homes from outside Liverpool and Merseyside. When a regular contractor is unavailable, landlords often need another local contact at short notice for urgent repair, maintenance or redecoration work.

Landlords, tenants, tradespeople and other participants can nominate businesses, including their own firms. However, votes that count towards a recommended listing and the awards outcome must come from eligible, verified landlords and Property Managers who have used the service being recommended.

Directory focus

As well as identifying trophy winners, the awards are intended to create a public directory of businesses backed by customer recommendations. The directory will be available to landlords seeking local contractors when their usual contacts are fully booked or unavailable.

For smaller contractors and property firms, the structure offers public recognition without the cost often associated with formal awards entries. The five-recommendation threshold is intended to show confidence from multiple genuine customers rather than rely on a judging process that produces only one winner.

Attendance at the ceremony is not required for winners or qualifying businesses. Tickets for those who choose to attend cost £39.99, and the event is being presented as an informal evening rather than a black-tie function.

Community link

Building Connections Networking operates as a paid networking community for landlords, property investors, tradespeople and property professionals. Members build working relationships through regular events and sign up to what the organisation calls a Fair Play Promise on standards of work, treatment and payment.

The awards are separate from paid membership, so businesses do not need to join the network to take part or qualify for a listing. Firms can therefore appear in the recommended directory without paying the organiser, provided they receive the required number of verified votes.

The scheme may be particularly relevant to landlords who own rental property in Liverpool and Merseyside but live elsewhere in the UK. In those cases, a publicly accessible list of recommended contractors could provide another source of local contacts when immediate work is needed.

The categories span both building trades and wider property services, reflecting the range of suppliers landlords may need for repairs, compliance, refurbishment and day-to-day property management. Self-nominations are allowed, although the deciding recommendations must still come from verified users of the service.

Informal approach

The launch also sets a deliberately less formal tone than many business awards events. Businesses can gain recognition without paying for tables or attending an evening ceremony, an approach intended to appeal to smaller operators and working tradespeople.

The awards night is planned for Liverpool, but the more lasting element of the project appears to be the recommended directory created through the voting process. For landlords seeking backup contacts, and for local contractors seeking visibility among property owners, that list may prove more useful than the trophies themselves.

Every contender that receives five or more verified landlord votes will qualify for a free 12-month recommended listing after the awards, regardless of whether they win their category.
