Leostream supports HP customers amid Tera 2 end-of-life

Tue, 19th Nov 2024

Leostream has pledged continued support for HP customers using Teradici Tera 2 chipsets in zero clients and remote workstations following HP's announcement to end the lineup.

Zero clients are widely used across various sectors such as financial services, media, and government due to their enhanced security, which comes from lacking local storage or an operating system. This design prevents users from installing or modifying software, reducing the risk of breaches and malware.

Many organisations utilise Leostream's platform to connect zero clients to PCoIP-enabled remote desktops. These include desktops with installed Remote Workstation Cards using the Tera 2 chipset, external host cards, or desktops with the HP Anyware agent. This configuration offers a robust hosted desktop environment, combining the security of zero clients with PCoIP performance and the flexibility provided by the Leostream platform.

Randy Foster, Leostream VP of Sales and Marketing, stated, "While the decision to EOL Tera 2 certainly introduces an opportunity for customers to investigate newer and more powerful products, there are millions of zero clients in the field and our intention is to continue to support Tera 2 for those who don't see a reason to transition. Those who want to switch in the future can use the Leostream Platform with nearly any client device and display protocol, so current HP Tera 2 customers can choose their own adventure based on their needs, instead of being locked into a successor product."

The Leostream platform also supports migration from standard zero clients for those interested in transitioning, with compatibility for HP Anyware clients like the Trusted Zero Client. Additionally, support is offered for alternative display protocols such as Amazon DCV and Mechdyne TGX.

HP has indicated plans to cease sales of the Tera 2 chipsets by the end of 2024 with support ending in 2029.

Leostream's Remote Desktop Access Platform offers a comprehensive solution designed to maintain productivity and security while minimising costs. The platform incorporates strict authentication protocols based on zero-trust principles and eliminates the need for traditional corporate VPNs by providing access to resources based on permissions.

This platform is particularly effective in environments requiring complex applications in fields such as energy and science, handling large files like those in media and entertainment, performing real-time tasks in financial services, or dealing with high-security requirements in government and defence sectors.
