iProov integrates biometrics with Microsoft Entra ID

Fri, 13th Dec 2024

Biometric identity solutions provider iProov has announced the integration of its biometric authentication platform with Microsoft Entra ID, which aims to enhance security for over 345 million users worldwide.

The integration addresses the increasing challenge of securing workforce access amidst sophisticated impersonation tactics by criminals and hostile states. These tactics include targeted phishing and the use of synthetic identities, where real and fabricated information is combined to create new personas. The 2023 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report highlighted that 81% of data breaches involved compromised credentials, underscoring the vulnerability of organisations to such attacks.

iProov's biometric technology can now be utilised as a primary or secondary authentication factor. This technology can verify workers' identities when accessing workstations via Windows login, on shared terminals, for physical access to buildings, and in a browser environment outside the office.

Critically, organisations are encouraged to move beyond traditional verification technologies, such as passwords and one-time passcodes, to adopt more robust identity authentication solutions. This transition is necessary to ensure that only authorised individuals can gain access, thereby significantly reducing the risk of identity fraud. Facial biometrics with liveness detection is one such advanced technology, offering enhanced protection against identity theft.

"Enterprises reliant on Microsoft Entra ID can now use this integration to secure themselves against some new and very disturbing risks, with our proven solution," stated Andrew Bud, founder and CEO of iProov. "By combining iProov's advanced biometric and liveness technology with Microsoft Entra ID's comprehensive identity management, we're empowering organisations to defend against workforce identity fraud, including synthetic identities and deepfakes, while ensuring a seamless, user-friendly and device-independent experience for their workforce."

Will Hogg, Strategic Technology Strategist at Microsoft UK, added, "Securing workforce access in today's environment is more critical than ever. By integrating iProov's technology into the Microsoft Entra ecosystem organisations can add highly secure and user-friendly facial biometrics to ensure that only authorised individuals gain access to shared workstations, facilities, and sensitive systems."

The integration allows organisations to continue using Microsoft Entra ID's identity and access management capabilities with the added advantage of iProov's biometric authentication without complex integration. This facilitates the automation of employee onboarding, enhancement of security through multi-factor authentication, improved user experience, and increased productivity by reducing IT support requests.

Biometrics with liveness detection is critical for workforce access due to traditional methods like passwords and access cards being prone to theft, sharing, and fraud. iProov's technology ensures liveness, providing protection against AI-generated deepfakes or spoofing attempts, confirming not just the individual's identity but also ensuring they are present during authentication.

This integration is particularly valuable in high-security environments where employees cannot bring their own devices or where devices are shared. iProov's biometric authentication integrated with Microsoft Entra ID provides strong identity verification and convenient, secure authentication that removes the need for passwords, PINs, or access cards.

The use of this integrated solution spans multiple industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, and government, offering enhanced security and compliance while ensuring only authorised personnel have access to sensitive areas and information.
