Fife expands Totalmobile rollout across adult care

Fife Health and Social Care Partnership has expanded its partnership with Totalmobile across Adult Services Resources, with the rollout set to reach up to 950 users.
The move builds on a programme that has already increased service capacity by more than 30% through technology used by about 900 care workers. It has also supported more than three million care visits and delivered annual savings of GBP £2.35 million by reducing mileage costs and removing paper-based processes.
The latest phase will introduce additional tools for dynamic scheduling, mobile working, lone worker protection and service reporting across Adult Services Resources. The programme will be delivered in phases as more teams are brought onto the system.
Managers are using the expanded system to bring scheduling, frontline activity, service information and reporting into one environment. Staff working in the community will also be able to access and record information during visits, including when they do not have a network connection.
Scheduling is one area of focus. Some rotas currently take two members of staff a full working day to produce, and the new system is intended to help teams respond more easily to changes while reducing duplicate data entry.
The programme also includes extra support for staff working alone in the community. Lone worker tools are designed to give teams carrying out visits away from office settings additional safeguards, while giving the wider service a clearer view of where colleagues are working and when.
Dafydd McIntosh, Service Manager at Fife Adults Services Resources, said: "We've already seen what can be achieved when our teams have technology that is designed around the way our services actually operate. Building on that experience gives us an opportunity to take what we've learned and apply it across more of Adult Services, while recognising that every service and every team has different needs.
"This next phase is about making everyday processes simpler for our teams, both behind the scenes and on the frontline, giving them better access to the information they need and creating more time to focus on the people who rely on our services."
Fife's work with Totalmobile has already created an additional 1,713 hours of service capacity each week, according to the organisations. That increase is central to the case for extending the system into more parts of Adult Services Resources.
Wider Rollout
Totalmobile provides field service management software to public sector organisations and other workforce-based services. In Fife, its systems support care delivery in community settings where staff need up-to-date information while moving between visits.
The partnership has also received external recognition. Fife and Totalmobile won the Technology Enabled Independent Living Award at the Digital Health and Care Scotland Awards for their work on the earlier phase of the programme.
That phase established a base for the current expansion by embedding the technology in day-to-day care operations. The next stage applies the same approach to a broader range of adult service teams, with a larger user base and more administrative processes moved into the system.
Ricky Moore, Managing Director of Public Sector at Totalmobile, said: "There's something particularly rewarding about reaching this stage of a partnership. Fife took an ambitious approach to changing how care is delivered in the community, and together we've seen what that can mean in practice - creating more capacity for services while making everyday processes simpler for the people delivering them.
"Now we get to take everything we've learned together and apply it to a different set of services and challenges. We understand Fife's teams, the complexity of delivering services across communities and what good looks like in practice. That gives us a fantastic foundation for this next phase, and we're incredibly proud that Fife has chosen to deepen its relationship with Totalmobile."
