de Novo to create 50 Welsh tech jobs in five years

Wed, 7th Jan 2026

Welsh technology consultancy de Novo Solutions plans to create 50 new technology roles in Wales over the next five years as part of a hiring initiative aimed at expanding its workforce and training pipeline.

The "50 in 5" programme will run until the end of the decade. The roles will sit across de Novo's digital transformation work and its structured training schemes for early-career staff.

The company is based in Langstone, Newport. It works with public sector and corporate clients on projects across HR, payroll, finance and procurement.

De Novo has grown rapidly since its launch in 2021. It was ranked 13th overall in the 2025 Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50 and was the highest-placed Welsh firm on the list. It also featured in The Sunday Times 100 Fastest-Growing Companies this year, where it ranked eighth.

Focus on Welsh skills

The new hiring plan will sit alongside an expansion of de Novo's Graduate Apprenticeship programme. The scheme runs with support from the Welsh Government and the University of South Wales.

The apprenticeships combine paid roles with structured learning. Participants gain experience on live client projects that use Oracle Cloud and ServiceNow software.

Founder and Chief Executive Mark Sweeny has positioned the company as a training ground for local digital talent. He received the Tech Leader of the Year award at the recent Wales Technology Awards.

"We are proud to be at the forefront of digital transformation in the UK, providing tangible value for our clients across a range of industries and offering opportunities for the tech leaders of the future to take their careers to the next level. There will be opportunities for those looking to complete apprenticeships or higher education qualifications, as well as those who have already begun their digital transformation career and now want to elevate it to new heights," said Mark Sweeny, Founder and Chief Executive, de Novo Solutions.

Sweeny said the firm would focus on developing existing staff and new hires under the same programme.

"The 50 in 5 initiative reflects our commitment to enhancing the talent we have within the de Novo team as well as boosting the Welsh economy and wider tech sector in the UK. New recruits have the chance to train with us, learn tech and life skills, and gain hands-on experience within a company that I am proud to say is becoming the go-to name when organisations need an expert digital transformation partner."

Political backing

The initiative has drawn support from ministers in Cardiff and Westminster. The company is one of several technology employers that have grown around Newport in recent years.

Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, said de Novo's trajectory reflected the strength of the wider sector.

"The success of de Novo Solutions in becoming one of the UK's fastest-growing tech companies from its base in Newport demonstrates the strength of Wales as a hub for digital innovation. I was delighted to visit de Novo earlier this year to see first-hand the excellent work they're doing to develop the next generation of tech talent in Wales. The company recently sponsored Wales Tech Week in a demonstration of its support for the industry, and its expanded Graduate Apprenticeship programme, delivered in partnership with Welsh Government and the University of South Wales, is contributing to developing a skilled workforce that will help drive our economy forward," said Rebecca Evans MS, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Welsh Government.

Jessica Morden, MP for Newport East, said the recruitment push aligned with the city's demographic profile and growth plans.

"I am delighted to welcome this announcement from de Novo, one of Newport East's many brilliant companies driving our local economy and creating skilled, well-paid opportunities for young people and those aspiring to build careers in the tech sector. As the fastest-growing city in Wales, with the proportionally highest population of under-16s, Newport is brimming with talent, ambition, and energy. These 50 new jobs over the next five years will not only strengthen our city's reputation as a hub for innovation but also ensure that local people can thrive in the industries of the future. I look forward to seeing these opportunities come to life and to celebrating the continued success of Newport's growing tech-based business community," said Morden.

Client base and services

De Novo works on cloud-based transformation projects for central government departments and local authorities. Its clients include the Ministry of Justice, HM Treasury, the Office for National Statistics, Kent County Council and Swansea Council.

The company has introduced several branded offerings for Oracle Cloud and ServiceNow users. These include its Odyssea industry cloud solutions, its Value as a Service managed services model and its Testing as a Service software testing services.

The firm positions these services as a way for clients to deploy and run cloud systems while outsourcing ongoing support and testing work.

The new roles announced under the "50 in 5" plan are expected to feed into this portfolio. The company intends to source many of the recruits from Wales and the wider UK technology talent pool over the coming years.
