CyberFest unites North East cyber sector with record attendance

Fri, 14th Nov 2025

CyberNorth's annual CyberFest brought together over a thousand delegates, 42 speakers, and 21 events across the North East, underlining the region's position as a centre for cyber security collaboration and expertise.

Regional growth

CyberFest has expanded each year since its inception and now attracts attention from the national cyber security community. The month-long programme highlights local talent and firms, aiming to promote the North East as a primary destination for cyber security expertise.

This year's CyberFest Community Conference, held at Newcastle Civic Centre, centred on the theme 'Your Connected Community'. Attendees from across the UK and internationally included representatives from the National Cyber Security Centre, the National Space Agency, and industry leaders in maritime and government security.

Sector collaboration

CyberFest's agenda emphasised cross-sectoral ties beyond conventional cyber businesses, drawing active involvement from space, maritime, and defence clusters. Events throughout the month ranged from panel debates and networking sessions to practical workshops and an awards ceremony.

"We set out to make CyberFest 2025 bigger and bolder than ever before, and the team delivered. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to open and address the CyberFest Community Conference, however it's key to acknowledge that the month of CyberFest and the Community Conference are not just gatherings-CyberNorth are creating spaces that enable knowledge, collaboration and innovation to be shared.
"In an age where cyber risks are growing more complex, these events are not just beneficial - they're essential for building a safer digital future. The North East is a hotbed for innovation and collaboration and CyberNorth play a vital role in infusing the community together. The month-long CyberFest programme has become a prominent point in the cyber community diary, but we couldn't do this without our key partners and sponsors, and we'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to them all," said Annabel Berry, Chair, CyberNorth.

Community impact

Speakers and attendees described the festival as central to the North East's growing reputation for cyber security. Several new projects and collaborations have been initiated during the festival as a result of introductions made at the event.

The CyberNorth Awards recognised local achievements. Accenture's Newcastle Security Team was named Team of the Year, Aspire Technology Solutions took the Innovation of the Year award, Kimberley Graham of Sage was named Outstanding Cyber Professional, Matthew Chambers was awarded the Rising Star accolade, and Dr Martin Wilson named Community Champion.

Industry recognition

CyberNorth supports over 100 businesses and 2,000 professionals, building links among sectors such as FinTech, space, maritime, and defence. The organisation has focused on creating a community that is recognised for its collaboration and knowledge sharing.

"As we close on CyberFest 2025, the success of the month-long festival and community conference is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and expertise of our team and the fantastic, active cyber community we have in the region. CyberFest was key to bringing together other prominent clusters in the region from the Space, Maritime and Defence sectors. And the calibre of speakers we attracted this year was second to none.
"Projects and collaborations between some of the speakers and other clusters are already happening because of the festival, which is terrific! The North East has something really special to offer, and our cyber community is now known on a national level for being connected and collaborative. Only good can come from this," said Danielle Phillips, CEO, CyberNorth.
