Cloudera launches new AI tools to ease SQL queries & strengthen BI

Fri, 10th May 2024

Cloudera has unveiled three new artificial intelligence (AI) products intended to streamline the creation and implementation of machine learning applications, enhance business intelligence capabilities, and simplify SQL queries for developers.

The new AI models will expedite the process of transitioning AI from the lab to production by simplifying SQL, driving business intelligence and building machine learning applications from scratch, thus broadening data access for more people. The launch was part of the recent Cloudera Now virtual event.

SQL development can pose a real challenge even to the most experienced developers. Cloudera's SQL AI assistant, designed to be a "virtual domain expert" and SQL guru, helps users by finding relevant data, writing the query, optimising it and explaining it back in plain, easy-to-understand language. Under the hood, the AI assistant employs advanced techniques like prompt engineering and retrieval augmented generation to comprehensively understand a company's database. It's equipped to work with several large language models (LLMs), whether public or private and can scale to handle thousands of tables and users simultaneously.

The Business Intelligence (BI) Chatbot is another new development aimed at diversifying insights beyond what a regular BI dashboard typically shows. The chatbot, which resides directly within the user's dashboard, is designed to answer any question that the user poses, providing in-depth, actionable insights. Users need only ask a question in plain language, and the chatbot will match it with the relevant data and visuals, thus reducing the need to trudge through dropdowns and filters for information.

Thirdly, Cloudera is introducing its Machine Learning (ML) Copilot. Building machine learning models can be a complex and time-consuming process, and many models never make it to production. The Cloudera ML Copilot, powered by pre-trained LLMs, simplifies this process. It can write and debug Python code, suggest improvements, and even generate entire applications from scratch. With integration to over 130 Hugging Face models and datasets, users have a wealth of resources at their disposal. Whether a data scientist looking to streamline their workflow or a business user keen to quickly set up an AI application, the ML Copilots support the end-to-end development process, thereby accelerating the deployment of models in production.

Adding these AI assistants for SQL, BI, and ML directly into the platform transforms the data experience for all users. SQL developers can enhance their productivity, business analysts can access deeper, actionable insights, and data scientists can bring new AI applications to production faster and with greater confidence.
