A new independent study has revealed how global organisations that use artificial intelligence (AI) translation services wield this technology to both increase efficiency and save millions. Focusing on DeepL, a global specialist in language AI, the research illustrates how translation is proving a highly strategic area for businesses who want to grow revenues and enter new markets quickly and effectively. The study was carried out by Forrester Consulting and presented in "The Total Economic Impact of DeepL".
The study sought to evaluate the benefits, risks and costs of businesses using DeepL's offerings by investigating applications of the technology across multiple industries. These industries included energy, financial services, legal services and pharmaceuticals. The findings from four companies across these sectors were consolidated to create an overall picture of impacts and organisational experience, referred to as a 'composite organisation'.
The results show that the composite organisation utilising DeepL recorded significant cost savings, while overall operational efficiency was substantially improved. In what is being regarded as a testament to the transforming influence of AI technology on international business success, the study states that the composite organisation achieved a 90% decrease in internal document translation time, resulting in savings of time, effort and resources.
Other notable figures from the study include a 345% return on investment (ROI) in the space of three years and a reduction in translation workloads by half, leading to workflow cost savings of £227,430 over three years, and efficiency savings amounting to £2.8 million over the same time period.
The increased efficiency found across the board appears to be driven by how DeepL has been used to reduce internal translations and workloads. Freeing up in-house staff to focus on other tasks did not compromise on translation quality. It also reduced instances of outsourcing translation tasks, meaning efficiency was boosted along with considerable cost savings.
Praising the value of DeepL's AI service, a software application lead from one of the surveyed organisations stated: "We save time resolving complaints with DeepL, which translates into cost reduction or profit realisation...there is no time spent [manually trying to understand what has happened], we can now spend time on more diverse, value-added work and be more productive."
