Yondr opens 20MW phase of Slough data centre campus

Yondr Group, a global developer, owner, and operator of hyperscale data centres, has announced the first 20MW phase of a 30MW building on its London Slough Campus has achieved ready-for-service (RFS) status and entered operational use. This marks a significant milestone in delivering the company’s planned 100+MW data centre campus in Slough, West London.

Construction of the 30MW building began in 2022 and was completed in under two years. This facility is Yondr's first finished data centre in the UK. A second building, which will add another 30MW of capacity, is currently under construction on the same site. Upon completion, the project will become the largest data centre campus in Slough, an internationally recognised hub for the UK's data centre industry, strategically located near London.

The project incorporates a range of sustainability elements aligned with Yondr’s strategic focus in the specialised data centre sector. According to the company, the development is on course to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) ‘Very Good’ certification, due to numerous design and specification innovations. Yondr also disclosed that hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) is being used instead of diesel in the back-up generators, to lower carbon emissions.

Hill added: “The handover of our first UK data centre is a major milestone, not just for our Slough campus and Yondr, but for the UK’s data centre ecosystem as we respond to the global challenge of increasing data capacity.”

The first data centre's completion at the Slough campus also spotlights Yondr’s commitment to social impact and nurturing future talent in the industry. The project involves collaboration with the University Technical College (UTC) at Heathrow, facilitating skill development for Yondr and the broader data centre sector.
