Yondr expands London data centre with 40MW addition
Yondr Group has initiated the third phase of construction at its 100MW London data centre campus in Slough.
Once completed, the new 40MW data centre will contribute to a total capacity of over 100MW at the London campus, securing its position as one of the largest in the United Kingdom. This development repurposes a former paint factory site for commercial use. The groundbreaking follows the completion of the initial 30MW building in July of the previous year and a second 30MW data centre currently under construction.
The third building is set to meet BREEAM 'Very Good' standards, aiming to deliver consistent data capacity with sustainability in focus. The facility's energy efficiency aligns with Yondr's sustainability strategy, with solar panels planned for the roof, and the building will feature industry-leading power utilisation efficiency (PUE). The company aims to achieve Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality by 2030.
Yondr has collaborated closely with Slough Borough Council and the Canal & River Trust to develop plans that enhance local biodiversity and canal-side aesthetics while improving accessibility for local residents. A distinctive feature of the project is the green wall that faces the canal, designed on an independent structure to meet the centre's technical requirements, offering visual and acoustic shielding as well as contributing to local biodiversity.
Beyond the site itself, Yondr is committed to environmental improvements in the surrounding area, including planting native trees and shrubs to encourage local wildlife. Additionally, a new walking and cycle route will be established to promote community health and decrease vehicle traffic.
Yondr also undertook a community needs assessment, identifying a gap in outdoor learning opportunities for children. In response, the company funded educational visits for six local school classes to the Iver Environment Centre, providing experiential learning in biodiversity and conservation.
Peter Hill, Vice President of Design & Construction EMEA at Yondr, remarked, "The plans for this third building on our London campus show a clear evolution of our data centre design and delivery capabilities. It demonstrates just how far we have come in embracing sustainability to deliver our carbon neutrality goals and bring forward exemplar data centre developments."
He added, "Breaking ground on this project is a milestone not just for this building, but also for our London campus and our increasingly strong presence in Europe. I'd like to thank everyone who has helped progress this project through the design and planning stage, as well as those who have joined us to celebrate today, and I look forward to a smooth construction process and handover next year."
The completion of the facility is projected for mid-2026.
