VIRTUS announces new data centre plans for Milan, Italy
VIRTUS Data Centres has announced plans to establish its first facility in Italy, located in Cornaredo within the Milan West data centre cluster. This move marks a significant step in the company's European expansion strategy.
The new facility in Milan will be developed on a 71,000 square metre brownfield site with zoning approval for a 44,000 square metre facility. The site will be equipped to deliver 70MW of grid power, providing substantial capacity to support hyperscalers, enterprises, and service providers amidst growing digital infrastructure demands in Europe.
Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025, starting with demolishing existing structures and recycling materials. The facility is anticipated to be fully operational and ready for service by 2027, contributing additional capacity to one of Europe's most critical data centre markets.

The Milan facility is designed to address the escalating needs of AI workloads, hyperscale environments, and high-density computing while ensuring operational efficiency. Aligned with VIRTUS' dedication to sustainability, the project will integrate practices to reduce environmental impact, including energy-efficient designs, access to renewable power, waste reduction measures, and responsible water usage.
The development in Milan follows VIRTUS' recent expansions across Europe, including projects in Saunderton, Buckinghamshire, UK, and Marienpark and Wustermark in the Berlin region of Germany. These efforts highlight VIRTUS' role as a trusted partner for organisations seeking scalable and sustainable data centre solutions.
