Westcon-Comstor rolls out Europe-wide energy data EMS

Westcon-Comstor has introduced a new energy management system across its European operations, strengthening the distributor's data-led sustainability strategy and supporting its net-zero targets.

The company is working with UK-based energy management specialist ecoDriver and delivery partner Powercor after a trial in three UK locations. The system aggregates electricity usage data from sites across Europe into a single platform.

Westcon-Comstor positions the initiative as a central element of its efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions in line with science-based targets. The group operates in more than 50 countries and distributes technology from major IT vendors through a network of resellers and service providers.

Centralised energy data

The new sub-metering system collects real-time electricity consumption data at site level. It then presents the information in a unified view for Westcon-Comstor's sustainability teams in the region.

The company said this structure reduces the need for manual data collection and administration. Teams can then focus on identifying and executing practical emissions-reduction measures grounded in system evidence.

The data allows comparison of energy use with building occupancy and local weather conditions. Westcon-Comstor plans to use these comparisons with local facilities and operations teams to uncover previously hidden energy waste.

As the rollout expands to more sites, the company plans to use the platform to benchmark performance across buildings and locations. The system will support internal competitions based on measured reductions in energy use and emissions to encourage climate-friendly behaviours.

Data-led strategy

Westcon-Comstor has committed to a net-zero ambition for 2050 and to a set of interim goals validated by the Science Based Targets initiative in 2023. The EMS deployment forms part of a broader shift towards data-led management of environmental performance.

Westcon-Comstor said the scalable nature of the ecoDriver platform supports a gradual rollout across its European estate. The company can monitor performance remotely and prioritise interventions at sites that show higher relative consumption or unusual usage patterns.

The system is designed for continuous monitoring rather than periodic audits. Westcon-Comstor expects this approach to support ongoing adjustments rather than one-off efficiency projects.

Progress on emissions

The distributor reported that 50% of the electricity it now uses globally comes from renewable sources. This figure is up from 42% in the previous year.

The company has set a target to reach 100% renewable electricity by 2030. It also aims to halve its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, covering emissions that the company owns or controls directly or indirectly.

Westcon-Comstor stated that it is already close to the halfway point towards the 50% reduction goal for Scope 1 and 2 emissions. The company links this progress to a mix of renewable energy sourcing, efficiency measures and operational changes.

The annual Responsible Business report from Westcon-Comstor provides the main public disclosure of this progress. The report lists climate and energy metrics alongside broader environmental, social and governance information.

Partner roles

ecoDriver supplies the energy management software that underpins the new system. The company focuses on granular data collection and visualisation of consumption patterns, with additional context from environmental and weather data.

Powercor, based in Weybridge, Surrey, is acting as delivery partner for the project. The electrical services firm, which specialises in sustainable energy solutions, supports the design, installation and maintenance of the sub-metering infrastructure.

Westcon-Comstor plans to add more European sites to the ecoDriver system over time. The company expects the growing dataset to support continuous, measurable changes in how its buildings use energy.
