Vultr and SUSE partner for Kubernetes AI cloud launch
Vultr has formed a strategic collaboration with SUSE through the Vultr Cloud Alliance, bringing SUSE Rancher Prime and SUSE AI to the Vultr Marketplace.
The partnership targets enterprises deploying Kubernetes and artificial intelligence workloads on cloud infrastructure. It combines SUSE's software for Kubernetes management and AI operations with Vultr's cloud compute, GPU, and bare-metal services.
Under the deal, customers will be able to deploy self-hosted SUSE Rancher Prime and SUSE AI through Vultr's marketplace. SUSE Rancher Prime is designed to manage Kubernetes environments across hybrid IT setups, while SUSE AI is built to run AI workloads, including model training and inference.
The move reflects continued enterprise demand for Kubernetes-based software stacks that can run across a mix of on-premises and cloud environments. It also comes as companies seek access to GPU resources for AI projects without becoming overly dependent on a single large cloud provider.
Kubernetes Focus
The joint offering is intended to address operational fragmentation, governance requirements and concerns about vendor lock-in. Vultr and SUSE are positioning their partnership around open-source and Cloud Native Computing Foundation-aligned technologies that help customers move workloads more easily between environments.
For customers running conventional containerised applications, SUSE Rancher Prime will run on Vultr Cloud Compute, including VX1 instances. For AI workloads, SUSE AI will be paired with Vultr Cloud GPU and bare metal infrastructure.
Vultr's GPU options include NVIDIA and AMD Instinct products. SUSE says its AI software adds governance, security and lifecycle management across Kubernetes and AI environments.
The partnership also addresses sovereign cloud and digital sovereignty requirements, which have gained prominence as regulation tightens around transparency, software supply chains and control over where workloads run. SUSE says observability and security features in its AI platform are intended to help customers manage those issues on Vultr infrastructure.
Market Context
The agreement comes as infrastructure providers and software vendors seek a larger share of enterprise AI spending. Many organisations are still in the early stages of moving from proofs of concept to production systems, while facing cost pressures, compliance requirements and operational complexity.
Kubernetes has become a common layer for managing modern applications, and several vendors are now trying to extend that model to AI systems. That has created opportunities for partnerships between cloud infrastructure providers with GPU access and software suppliers focused on orchestration, governance and security.
Privately held Vultr has been expanding its position in that market as an alternative to the largest public cloud providers. In late 2024, it announced equity financing at a valuation of USD $3.5 billion.
SUSE, meanwhile, has been expanding its open-source portfolio beyond Linux and Kubernetes management to include AI-focused software. The company says many Fortune 500 companies use its products to manage mixed IT environments across on-premises systems, cloud, and edge deployments.
Executive Views
"Open source is at the core of everything we do, and Kubernetes standardisation is critical to helping enterprises simplify cloud-native operations," said Kevin Cochrane, Chief Marketing Officer, Vultr. "Our partnership with SUSE through the Vultr Cloud Alliance reflects our shared commitment within the CNCF ecosystem to deliver flexible, enterprise-ready Kubernetes and AI solutions that empower developers and organisations globally."
Rhys Oxenham, VP and General Manager of AI at SUSE, said making the products available through the marketplace is intended to simplify deployment for customers.
"The future of enterprise cloud depends on interoperability and the ability to scale without complexity in an AI-centric world. By bringing SUSE Rancher Prime and SUSE AI to the Vultr Marketplace, we are making it easier for global organisations to manage their expanding cloud-native and AI workloads on high-performance infrastructure. SUSE AI delivers a robust, secure, and enterprise-ready foundation that gives customers the agility to deploy next-generation AI solutions and agentic workflows while maintaining full control over their digital sovereignty," said Oxenham.
