UK firms urged to act as Microsoft support ends October 2025
UK businesses are being cautioned over the potential risks posed by the imminent end of support for Windows 10 and other Microsoft products.
Cloudhouse has highlighted concerns as Microsoft prepares to end support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025, warning that several additional products, including Office 2016, Office 2019, and Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows 10, will reach their End-of-Life at the same time.
Mat Clothier, Chief Executive Officer of Cloudhouse, compared this situation to Microsoft's recent discontinuation of Teams Classic. He noted that IT departments should view the experience of handling Teams Classic's retirement as a preliminary exercise in preparation for more substantial changes ahead.
"July's sunset of Teams Classic was just a dress rehearsal," said Mat Clothier, CEO of Cloudhouse. "This year we've seen a significant increase in enterprise enquiries over the past 12 months, as large organisations realise the scale of what's coming - yet have left it until the last minute. What's required is an ongoing strategic approach to IT modernisation rather than piecemeal problem-solving."
Industry observers estimate that many businesses running legacy applications on soon-to-be unsupported platforms could face mounting risks to security, compliance, and ongoing operations after October 2025. The end of official support means companies will lose access to security patches, compatibility updates and direct support from vendors.
Cloudhouse has received a surge in requests for guidance from enterprises concerned about their exposure to the simultaneous End-of-Life deadlines. According to the company, failure to proactively address these dependencies may increase the likelihood of productivity disruptions and higher-than-anticipated IT transformation costs later in the year.
Key deadlines
The following products will no longer receive support from Microsoft after 14 October 2025:
- Windows 10
- Office 2016 & Office 2019
- Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows 10
- Exchange Server 2016 & 2019
For organisations dependent on these systems, the loss of vendor support could expose critical business functions to cyber threats and result in operational interruptions. The situation is particularly acute for companies that rely on legacy applications and cannot easily migrate to newer software versions.
Emergency risk support
To provide immediate assistance, Cloudhouse has introduced an End of Life Hotline, offering free 30-minute consultations targeted at CIOs and IT teams. The company states the service is intended to help organisations quickly assess potential vulnerabilities related to the End-of-Life changes and identify areas where remedial action is most urgent.
Clothier's call for a comprehensive and ongoing approach to IT modernisation contrasts with historical tendencies among businesses to defer major upgrades until faced with imminent deadlines. He suggests that such last-minute responses risk inefficiencies and heightened expense, particularly as several platforms reach End-of-Life simultaneously.
Organisations are therefore encouraged to evaluate their software dependencies, consider strategic IT planning, and consult with industry experts to mitigate the risks associated with unsupported Microsoft products.
