UK cybersecurity budgets to rise by over 30% in 2025
Cybersecurity budgets in the United Kingdom are projected to increase by over 30% in 2025, according to recent research from Infosecurity Europe.
The findings from the 2025 Cybersecurity Trends Report highlighted that UK organisations are anticipating an average budget growth of 31%, a notable increase compared to the global forecast of 15% by Gartner. This increase is expected as organisations aim to bolster their security measures across various domains, including application, network, and cloud security, as well as DevSecOps.
A significant 75% of organisations expect their cybersecurity budgets to expand, with 20% envisaging increases of over 50%.
However, despite these budgetary expansions, a challenge remains in engaging cybersecurity professionals with board-level executives, which is crucial in aligning strategic decisions with technical needs.
In the survey, 71% of respondents believe their current budgets are sufficient for ensuring their organisation's cyber safety. An additional 18% indicated their budgets were nearly adequate, while 8% stated they lacked the necessary funding. The remaining 2% of respondents had yet to evaluate their financial needs.
The report also identified key barriers to developing a robust cybersecurity culture. The primary obstacles include insufficient resources, rising from 22.5% in 2024 to 40% in 2025, and the lack of a clear cybersecurity strategy aligned with organisational goals, increasing from 20.5% to 45% over the same period.
The importance of bridging the gap between technical teams and strategic decision-making is emphasised, as more than half of cybersecurity professionals reportedly face difficulties in gaining board-level engagement. Effective collaboration across the cybersecurity ecosystem is highlighted as essential for realising a truly cyber-safe world.
Reflecting on the various efforts to address these issues, Infosecurity Europe's Event Director, Brad Maule-ffinch, commented, "Our conference programme has been vastly overhauled, including how we tag and describe sessions, to help visitors easily identify what they will learn and where to focus their time, and our Infosec Meets platform is expanding to empower visitors to easily arrange meetings and interactions. We'll also be providing more guidance on how to find new technologies at the show, ensuring visitors have unparalleled access to the very latest cyber solutions."
"Infosecurity Europe is where the cybersecurity community meets, learns and works together on building a safer cyber world and we can't wait to welcome you."
The upcoming Infosecurity Europe event will focus on the theme of "Building a Safer Cyber World", as the event marks its 30th edition this year. It aims to reflect on the evolution of cybersecurity over the past three decades while setting the stage for future developments in the field.
Rik Ferguson, Hall of Fame alumnus and Vice President Security Intelligence at Forescout Technologies, Inc, added, "Building a cyber-safe world today goes far beyond protecting data and systems. It encompasses safeguarding the critical infrastructure that underpins our global economy and, quite literally, keeps the lights on. Security must be foundational, baked into every aspect of our digital lives because the reality is, no one is an island."
"The past three decades have taught us that cybersecurity is not a destination; it's an ongoing journey. The challenge now is to stay ahead, remain vigilant, and foster a culture of security that extends beyond technology to people, processes, and policy."
Infosecurity Europe continues to be a prominent platform for industry leaders to converge, offering updated conference tracks, networking events, and tools designed to equip participants with the latest insights and developments in cybersecurity.
