Tes appoints Camila Kill as Chief Technology Officer

Tes has appointed Camila Kill as Chief Technology Officer. She joins from Expedia Group, where she was Vice President of Engineering.
At the education technology company, Kill will lead technology strategy as Tes expands Tes360, its platform designed to link data and systems across schools and trusts.
Her remit includes developing Tes's data strategy, strengthening the technology foundations across its product portfolio and identifying ways to simplify its technology environment. She will also examine how artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used across its products and internal technology teams.
Kill spent almost a decade at Expedia, where she worked on digital products using data, machine learning and AI. Her career has also included roles at TUI, Legal & General and Jaguar, spanning engineering, architecture and technology leadership.
The appointment comes as Tes increases its focus on applying data and AI to practical issues in schools, including reducing administrative burden and improving the use of information already held across different systems.
A central part of Kill's role will be supporting Tes's connected schools strategy through Tes360. The platform is intended to bring together workflows, data and intelligence across school operations, including safeguarding, behaviour and attendance, workforce management, timetabling, recruitment and professional development.
Tes works with more than 43,000 schools worldwide, supports more than two million educators and reaches more than 13 million students. It has been expanding its technology offering for schools and trusts as education providers seek to manage a growing number of software tools and data sources.
In a statement, Kill outlined what drew her to the role and her priorities.
"What attracted me to Tes was the opportunity to use technology to make a genuine difference to education. Schools already have a wealth of technology and valuable information, but there is a huge opportunity to make it work better together. I've spent much of my career looking at how to bring together products, data and engineering at scale to create experiences that feel simpler and more useful. I want to bring that same thinking to Tes: using technology to remove complexity, uncover better insights and solve real problems for schools. Tes360 gives us the opportunity to do that across the whole school environment. And with AI and machine learning advancing so rapidly, we have an opportunity to rethink what education technology can do - not technology for its own sake, but innovation that gives teachers and leaders time back and helps them support pupils more effectively," said Camila Kill, Chief Technology Officer, Tes.
The hire adds a senior technology executive with experience of large digital platforms and data-led systems in consumer-facing businesses. That background is relevant as Tes seeks to connect the systems used by schools while reducing the number of disconnected tools staff must work with.
Rod Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Tes, said Kill's experience aligned with the company's direction.
"Camila brings a specialised combination of deep engineering expertise and experience of delivering technology and innovation at enormous scale. She understands how to connect complex products and data behind the scenes while focusing on the user experience. That is exactly the kind of thinking we want to bring to education. Tes360 is about moving beyond fragmented technology towards a more connected approach, and Camila will play a major role in shaping that vision further and determining what comes next. This appointment is an important step in our ambition to build technology that genuinely changes how schools operate and supports teachers and pupils, particularly in areas such as safeguarding," said Williams.
