Tenable leads global device exposure management for seventh year
Tenable has secured the top global market share for device vulnerability and exposure management for the seventh consecutive year, according to IDC's latest market shares report for 2024.
The ranking highlights continuing shifts in cybersecurity, with exposure management increasingly recognised as a critical evolution beyond traditional vulnerability management strategies. This year's IDC Worldwide Device Vulnerability and Exposure Management Market Shares report credits Tenable's ongoing focus on exposure management, robust partner ecosystem, and channel-led strategy for its industry position.
Tenable's AI-powered Tenable One platform, which played a central role in earning this recognition, brings together data from over 300 integrated security tools alongside Tenable's own sensors. With this consolidated approach, security teams can access a single view of exposures across the attack surface, enhanced by AI-driven analytics that highlight the exposures most susceptible to exploitation.
Mark Thurmond, Co-Chief Executive Officer at Tenable, commented on the achievement, stating:
"We believe seven consecutive years of market share leadership is a testament to the trust our customers place in our Tenable One platform every day. We remain focused on pushing the envelope of exposure management solutions that help our customers evolve their security strategies and not just stop breaches but prevent them before they even happen."
The IDC Market Shares report noted Tenable's position as an aggregator of exposure data on a single platform, and recognised Tenable One as the most open and interconnected exposure management solution available due, in part, to its numerous integrations.
The report also highlighted Tenable's acquisition of Apex Security, aimed at embedding AI security capabilities into Tenable's offerings. Following this acquisition, Tenable launched Tenable AI Exposure in August 2025, a service designed to improve organisations' visibility into AI usage and related risk, integrating these insights directly into Tenable One to assist customers in managing adoption of generative AI tools securely.
The importance of exposure management was outlined in the IDC report, which stated: "Exposure management goes further than vulnerability management in providing a holistic view, emphasising the fusion of multiple exposure sources by bringing together CVEs, unknown assets, misconfigurations, and other types of exposure. With exposure management solutions, organisations can aggregate, de-duplicate, and analyse data from a variety of sources to provide a more accurate assessment of an organisation's risk posture."
Michelle Abraham, Senior Research Director, Security and Trust at IDC, added:
"Proactive exposure management is the future as traditional vulnerability detection transforms into holistic risk management and remediation. As attack surfaces expand, organisations must leverage advanced tools to illuminate hidden risks and close critical gaps before exploitation occurs."
This latest ranking follows shortly after Tenable's recognition as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Exposure Management 2025 Vendor Assessment, further supporting its status in the marketplace.
The increased market demand for exposure management solutions reflects broader cybersecurity trends, with businesses and public sector organisations seeking methods to assess and manage risk more proactively as digital transformation expands the complexity and reach of IT environments. Tenable's unified approach, aided by AI and comprehensive integrations, is positioned within the IDC report as emblematic of the movement towards more data-driven and pre-emptive cybersecurity practices.
Industry observers have noted that with exposure management providing centralised visibility, organisations are better equipped not only to identify and respond to vulnerabilities but also to take pre-emptive measures that can reduce the likelihood of cyber incidents. The recognition from IDC, an analyst firm in the technology sector, signals growing consensus around the importance of this unified and holistic approach to managing enterprise risk.
The continued focus on exposure management underscores its expanding role in the shift from reactive cybersecurity postures to proactive threat and risk mitigation. As digital ecosystems become more complex, organisations are increasingly relying on platforms such as Tenable One for comprehensive, AI-augmented oversight of their cyber risk exposure landscape.
