TechWorks launches AI initiative at Bletchley Park

Tue, 23rd Apr 2024

TechWorks, has officially announced launch of TechWorks AI at Bletchley Park. The intent is to support and govern the challenges and opportunities posed by the ever-growing world of AI technology, according to a statement from the company. The launch showcases the collaboration of established TechWorks communities to foster the future expansion of AI systems, with a particular focus on the creation of reliable AI.

TechWorks AI has the backing of Viscount Camrose, the Minister for AI, and industry leaders. The new venture seeks to respond effectively to the growing realisation of the challenges posed by AI technology within government bodies and organisations. Moreover, it aims to emphasise the necessity to determine the trustworthiness of AI, as it serves as the foundation for our future. The Techworks community, with its comprehensive knowledge and experience, seems aptly suited to address these issues and potential solutions.

TechWorks brings together five industry bodies covering automotive innovation, IoT cyber security, and design and manufacturing of semiconductor and embedded systems. The establishment of the new AI initiative will encourage shared expertise across these bodies to merge this knowledge and form the technical blocks required to build trustworthy AI—the main focus of TechWorks AI.

John Moor, COO of TechWorks, remarked on the milestone moment for the members of TechWorks and UK innovation, stating, "All technology is dual purpose - it can be used beneficially, as intended, but it can also be weaponised and this is especially true for artificial intelligence and all its subdomains."

Moor emphasised that given the speed at which AI technology has developed, and the expected future acceleration, diverse expertise must pool together to ensure that AI technology remains safe, secure, and engineered with trustworthiness in mind. Before the launch, TechWorks announced a detailed whitepaper explaining how the combined industry bodies are optimally positioned to support governments and organisations in understanding the importance of creating responsible and trustworthy AI.

Moor asserted, "Given the breadth of expertise within the TechWorks membership base, we are confident we can guide the future trustworthiness of AI systems. To all stakeholders, I invite you to engage with us, join the TechWorks AI team and help make this transformational technology safe and beneficial for all."

Viscount Camrose underscored that TechWorks's creation of this new community plays an integral role in ensuring the future of AI remains safe, trustworthy, and beneficial. He said, "I am delighted that TechWorks is bringing together the brightest minds in industry to respond to the challenges posed by AI, building on the Bletchley effect and the foundations laid at the first AI Safety Summit in November. This new community is further proof of the UK's position as a trailblazer in AI safety."
