Tech Educators earns 'Strong' Ofsted rating for inclusion

Thu, 19th Mar 2026

Tech Educators has received a 'Strong standard' rating from Ofsted, placing the independent training provider above the level expected of education organisations.

The inspection highlighted an inclusive learning environment and welcoming culture across its programmes, supported by instructors with current industry experience.

Ofsted described the organisation's leaders as "advocates for widening participation," noting their focus on recruiting from groups underrepresented in the technology sector and learners who are harder to reach due to socioeconomic disadvantage. "They place inclusion, high expectations and learners at the centre of all decision making," the report added.

The result comes as employers report persistent difficulties finding people with the right technology skills. The Government estimates the digital skills gap costs the UK economy £63bn a year.

Businesses also expect the issue to intensify. Figures cited by the provider show 60% of firms expect to increase their reliance on advanced digital skills over the next five years. Separate polling it referenced found 88% of young people think digital skills will be essential for their careers.

Demand signals

Other indicators point to digital requirements spreading across the labour market. Research cited in inspection coverage says digital skills requirements have doubled in job postings over the past decade, and that nearly 39% of UK job listings now highlight a need for digital competencies.

Employers also report continued hiring constraints linked to capability gaps. The same figures indicate 76% of UK employers are struggling to fill roles due to skills shortages, a problem that has persisted for more than a decade.

Providers such as Tech Educators operate in a crowded, fast-changing market that includes university short courses, private-sector bootcamps, employer-led academies and further education colleges. Ofsted ratings can shape how prospective learners and partners judge quality, particularly for organisations working with adult learners and career changers.

Provider footprint

Tech Educators is headquartered in Norwich and runs programmes in Cambridge and Hull. It currently supports more than 150 adult learners through short, intensive training courses.

Programmes cover software development, digital marketing, AI and data analysis, with courses typically running 10 to 16 weeks. The provider also offers careers support, including CV guidance, interview preparation and alumni support.

Many learners start with limited or no prior experience, based on the provider's description of its intake. Training focuses on practical work aligned with digital roles and workplace expectations.

Ofsted noted learner progress and the quality of their work. Inspectors reported that learners "make extensive progress from their starting points" and produce work of a "very high standard," with most moving into employment or strengthening their business operations after completing the courses.

Inclusion focus

Participation and access are central to the provider's positioning. Technology roles have historically had lower representation from some socioeconomic groups and other underrepresented demographics at both entry and senior levels.

Ofsted linked leadership and culture to the learner experience, describing leaders as focused on widening participation and supporting learners who are harder to reach.

James Charles Adams, Founder and CEO of Tech Educators, said: "Receiving a 'Strong standard' from Ofsted is a huge moment for our team and a reflection of the dedication our instructors and staff show to learners every day."

"The UK faces a significant digital skills shortage and the people who are most often locked out of the tech sector are those who would benefit most from the opportunities it offers. Our focus has always been on opening those doors-helping people from all backgrounds gain the practical skills and confidence needed to build long-term careers in technology," Adams said.

Growth plans

The organisation plans to expand beyond its current bootcamp footprint and is building out its management team as it seeks a larger role in the UK's adult learning landscape.

Tech Educators recently appointed Rebecca Harris as Chief Marketing Officer, linking the hire to efforts to raise its profile and expand partnerships with employers, local authorities and skills bodies.

Adams outlined the next phase: "Over the coming years, our ambition is to build on our bootcamp success and become a leading provider of Adult Skills Funded Learning across the UK, supporting to develop pathways into a career in tech. With flexible, instructor led learning, we can help more people access high-quality digital education regardless of their location or circumstances."
