Tata partners with council bank to automate reconciliation ops

Today

Tata Consultancy Services has partnered with the Council of Europe Development Bank to support the modernisation of the bank's reconciliation processes.

Under the terms of this collaboration, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will deploy its TCS BaNCS for Reconciliations product at the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB). This deployment aims to enable the bank to better handle complex transactions and enhance operational efficiency through the use of automation and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Automation in reconciliations

The TCS BaNCS for Reconciliations system will automate the entire reconciliation lifecycle at CEB. This includes transaction matching, exception handling, investigations, and reporting, as well as real-time monitoring and transparency of processes. According to TCS, the integration of the product with CEB's core systems is expected to allow for faster daily reconciliations and improved operational control.

The bank will be able to automate additional tasks, such as loading files, extracting statement data from PDFs, and reconciling entries that do not match automatically.

Based in Paris, the Council of Europe Development Bank is a social development institution promoting social inclusion across its 43 member states. Its activities include financing investments and providing technical assistance in areas like education, health, and affordable housing, with a specific focus on supporting vulnerable communities. The bank's client base includes governments, regional and local authorities, as well as public and private banks and non-profit organisations. Given its large transaction volumes, the bank requires a system that can manage complexity and scale across numerous accounts.

Stefano Michelangeli, Head of Finance and Risk Systems at the Council of Europe Development Bank, highlighted the importance of a secure reconciliation system in achieving the bank's goals and enabling transparent, auditable outcomes for high-value transactions.

The CEB has a clear mandate to enhance social development among its member countries by leveraging technology. A reliable, robust and secure reconciliations solution has been key to this vision. Automation in reconciliation with high STP (Straight-Through Processes) is central to ensuring error-free operations for institutions such as ours. With TCS BaNCS for Reconciliations, we will be able to eliminate manual reconciliations processing and reporting, for transparent, auditable outcomes, especially, for high-value transactions. By improving the overall efficiency of operations, we can deliver on our larger vision of enhancing economic growth in the countries we service in line with our Strategic Framework 2023-2027.

Features of the reconciliation solution

The TCS BaNCS for Reconciliations platform leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate transaction matching, exception handling, and case management. It also includes a cognitive reconciliation engine, advanced pre-processing features, online archiving, API integration, and mobile compatibility.

The platform is built to handle high transaction volumes and supports both on-premises and cloud-based deployments. According to information from TCS, its user interface and dashboards enable real-time data processing and management of unreconciled transactions. The system is compliant with global standards such as SWIFT ISO 20022, helping ensure ongoing compliance while minimising errors and operational delays.

The design of TCS BaNCS enables flexible automation across various systems, aiming to reduce manual input, accelerate reconciliations, and optimise processing costs for the bank.

Partnership and regional presence

Venkateshwaran Srinivasan, Global Head, Financial Solutions at TCS, commented on the partnership and the potential for operational improvements at the Council of Europe Development Bank.

We are happy to partner with an organization like the CEB and support its strategic goal of improving social and economic development in its member states. With the deployment of TCS BaNCS, the CEB will be able to gain significant efficiency in operations, which gives the Bank the ability to operate on a higher scale. We continue to invest in products to help our clients enhance efficiency, improve customer experience and be future ready.
