Panasonic partners with Siemens for cloud transformation strategy

Mon, 5th Aug 2024

Panasonic Corporation has commenced the adoption of Siemens Digital Industries Software's Teamcenter X, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud product lifecycle management (PLM) solution from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. This move aims to accelerate Panasonic's digitalisation in product development and design.

As part of a large-scale digital transformation initiative known as Panasonic Transformation (PX), the company is leveraging Siemens Xcelerator as a Service to enhance its product development processes. The implementation focuses on integrating data management processes across product design and development, reducing lead times, and supporting continuous and rapid market availability of high-quality products. By migrating legacy IT assets and on-premises data management to the cloud, Panasonic seeks to reduce IT infrastructure maintenance labour hours and total cost of ownership while enabling swift access to updated PLM functionalities and secure systems worldwide.

Hideyuki Miyazaki, Panasonic's Chief Information Officer, commented on the collaboration with Siemens: "Panasonic has positioned digital transformation (DX) as a key strategy for strengthening its management foundation and is working on it under the company-wide name of Panasonic Transformation (PX). As one of our key measures, we are collaborating with Siemens to promote the shift to cloud computing and adopting digital threads for product design and development data management. By expanding this transformation in the future, we expect to enhance our market competitiveness and increase our enterprise value."

Siemens Xcelerator's ability to scale with customer needs is expected to expand Panasonic's global foundation for digital twin and digital thread applications in the development and design domains. This aims to improve productivity across Panasonic's manufacturing domain.

Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software, expressed his appreciation of Panasonic's initiative: "Our collaboration with a global leader like Panasonic demonstrates once again that our expertise in helping our customers to achieve their digital transformation goals with Siemens Xcelerator as a Service. We are honoured to be the first in the world to work with Panasonic on the global standardisation of cloud PLM. Siemens will continue to support Panasonic's rapid, large-scale, and bold digital transformation (DX)."

Kunihiko Horita, Country Manager and Vice President of Siemens Digital Industries Software in Japan, also highlighted the combined efforts of both companies' project teams: "We are very pleased to have enabled Panasonic's success through their adoption of our world-leading Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industry software and its move to Teamcenter X to help them build the digital base for realising their digital transformation goals. I was deeply impressed by the cooperation and competency of Panasonic and Siemens project teams. We, at Siemens, will continue to work together to expand the scope of this initiative and achieve true digital transformation (DX)."

Panasonic quickly migrated to Teamcenter X, eliminating prior customisations and rebuilding business processes based on standard out-of-the-box (OOTB) functions. Siemens' Mendix low-code platform, closely linked with Teamcenter X, facilitated the implementation of Panasonic's unique requirements. Teamcenter X aims to continually incorporate the latest technology, improve operational efficiency, and support business resilience and continuity. It also seeks to create an engineering environment capable of rapidly adapting to business reorganisations and user transfers between divisions.
