Norton launches Neo browser to boost AI-era online security

Thu, 4th Dec 2025

Norton has announced the global release of Neo, a web browser built specifically for the age of artificial intelligence. Neo is now available worldwide without any waitlist and is designed to prioritise user safety and privacy in an environment increasingly shaped by AI-powered threats.

Rising AI threats

The launch of Neo comes amid a significant shift in online security risks. Gen Threat Labs has reported blocking 140,000 malicious, AI-generated websites since the start of the year. This equates to an average of 580 new sites every day. The rapid growth in AI-driven phishing attempts is making it more difficult for users to identify safe sites and avoid scams while browsing.

Neo addresses this challenge by integrating Norton's privacy and security technologies at the core of its architecture. According to the company, Neo actively blocks an average of 0.5 malicious pages per user per day, aiming to provide a safer browsing experience for consumers concerned about the growing sophistication of online threats.

User control features

One of Neo's key features is its "Configurable Memory" system. This allows users to specify exactly what the browser remembers or forgets. Users can easily manage this information in settings, and are able to edit or delete stored data at any time. The intention is to offer transparency and direct control over the personal information handled by the browser.

Neo also employs a "zero-prompt" approach to AI-generated assistance. This means the browser anticipates user needs, such as providing page summaries or calendar reminders, without requiring manual commands or prompts. The aim is to reduce complexity for everyday users unfamiliar with the nuances of prompting AI systems, while maintaining clarity over what the browser is doing at any point.

Security and privacy integration

Privacy-first security is a central focus for Neo. The browser incorporates ad-blocking, in-flow phishing detection and is based on Norton's established privacy expertise. Its built-in phishing detection is designed to counter the growing use of AI in cybercrime and mitigate risks as internet-based attacks become more frequent and sophisticated.

Neo also helps users manage open tabs by grouping them by topic, which aims to aid focus and reduce the issue of tab overload common in other browsers. The company states that all features have been developed to ensure safety and simplicity, but with users retaining direct oversight over how AI-driven assistance operates within their browsing experience.

Market availability

The browser is available globally in English for MacOS and Windows platforms, with further releases expected for additional systems. Norton states that Neo is free to download, with ongoing feedback encouraged from users to help shape subsequent development and improvements.

"Many AI browsers promise intelligence, but few deliver safety. Only Norton could build a browser that harnesses the power of AI for good while protecting you from malicious AI threats. Neo puts AI to work for you by anticipating your needs, protecting your privacy and helping keep you safe online. It redefines what an AI-native browser can be: simple, smart and safe," said Howie Xu, Chief AI and Innovation Officer, Gen.
