Matrak opens UK office as platform tracks AUD$15 billion materials

Tue, 18th Nov 2025

Australian construction technology firm Matrak has opened a new office in the United Kingdom following significant growth in both its platform usage and project footprint. The move aligns with its broader strategy to scale its offering across Asia-Pacific and Europe, as it responds to rising demand from large-scale projects and increasingly international supply chains in the sector.

European presence

The decision to establish a dedicated UK office comes amid an increase in European-sourced suppliers participating in major construction builds, particularly for hospital and data centre developments. By locating staff in the United Kingdom, Matrak says it aims to support closer collaboration with these partners and reinforce its position in global material tracking and supply chain coordination for construction projects.

Steady growth

Matrak now supports 700 major active construction projects, marking a 35% year-on-year rise. The company also reports that over AUD $15 billion in construction materials have been tracked through its platform to date.

The platform's coverage includes almost 20% of all projects valued above AUD $50 million in the Australian and Hong Kong markets. With anticipated launches, including the AI-powered Matrak Connect, the business expects its market share to further expand as customers use automated tools to scale project management and carbon tracking capabilities.

Platform data

According to internal metrics, the platform has tracked more than four million individual construction materials, delivered over 72 million supply chain updates, completed over 13 million quality assurance checks, and captured more than 750,000 verified site photos for real-time project accountability.

These figures, Matrak states, reflect the platform's capacity for detailed, real-time lifecycle visibility, covering procurement to project completion across multi-party supply chains.

Automation and efficiency

Developed initially to streamline supply chains for major Australian construction, Matrak's system enables manufacturers and project teams to coordinate in real time, reducing reliance on manual processes. The company has previously secured an AI patent for cost estimation automation and is planning a further rollout of capabilities to manage full project lifecycles, including compliance and environmental tracking.

"After labour, building materials are the second biggest cost in construction. With Matrak Connect, our pilot customers will fully automate the tendering and project management process, unlocking massive competitive advantage while eliminating the resource bottlenecks that traditionally limit business growth," said Shane Hodgkins, Co-founder, Matrak.

Supply chain trends

The construction sector, worth AUD $12 trillion globally, still relies heavily on manual tools and fragmented systems despite ongoing pressures for operational efficiency. Matrak's management team sees its platform as a way for firms to stay ahead of logistical disruption, especially as businesses respond to shifting factory locations and tariffs in global trade environments.

"With ongoing supply chain pressures and growing demands for transparency, Matrak's data-driven platform keeps contractors, developers, and manufacturers ahead of disruption," said Hodgkins.

Environmental tracking

The company has also expanded its technology to address carbon reporting in construction materials, which are linked to a significant share of global carbon emissions. The platform's "materials passport" provides detailed information for every tracked item by source, production method, and calculated carbon footprint. This enables customers to document environmental credentials and align with green building standards.

Expanding focus

Matrak continues to diversify its deployment across new markets and construction verticals, focusing on technology aimed at improving transparency and operational coordination for builders, suppliers, and developers worldwide.
