Mary Yang appointed Chief Marketing Officer at SquareX

Yesterday

Mary Yang has been appointed as Chief Marketing Officer at SquareX as the company pursues its global growth strategy in browser security.

SquareX stated that Mary Yang is taking on the position with more than two decades of marketing leadership experience, including previous roles at technology firms and startups, and having led multiple successful exits. Her recent tenure was with Syxsense, an automated endpoint and vulnerability management company, where she oversaw global marketing and communications prior to the firm's acquisition in 2024.

In her new role at SquareX, Yang will be responsible for leading the company's global marketing strategy. This includes oversight of brand, growth, communications, field and channel marketing functions, all aimed at expanding the company's presence and scaling demand for its browser detection and response solution.

"Mary has a unique combination of GTM discipline and creativity, honed through years of leadership in the cybersecurity space. Her understanding of what it takes to grow a cybersecurity startup through building trust is exactly what we need as we shift up. We're very excited to work with her to build something category-creating," Vivek Ramachandran, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SquareX, commented on Yang's appointment.

SquareX has recently completed its Series A funding round, led by SYN Ventures, as it seeks to accelerate enterprise adoption of its browser detection and response approach. According to the company, this comes as enterprise browsers become a critical focus in the cyber threat landscape.

"I'm thrilled to join the SquareX team. When I saw the depth and breadth of the SquareX browser detection and response solution along with the challenges it was solving, it was clear how game-changing this technology is. Browsers are now the frontline of enterprise work and risk — every business-critical task happens inside a browser and nearly all major cyber-attacks leverage the browser as part of the kill chain. I look forward to showcasing how SquareX can help enterprises secure their workforce and enable their employees to work online confidently," Yang said, commenting on her decision to join SquareX.

SquareX stated that as browser-based threats continue to develop rapidly, the company is concentrating on staying ahead of adversaries through its security approach. Yang's arrival represents the latest in a series of leadership hires at the company, as it continues to focus on transforming browser security for enterprise needs.

The company's solution aims to address a range of browser security threats, including malicious browser extensions, spearphishing attempts, browser-native ransomware, and risks associated with generative AI data loss prevention. SquareX's technology is designed to integrate with existing browsers rather than requiring enterprises to adopt separate, dedicated browsers, aiming to balance security measures with user experience and productivity.

According to SquareX, its browser detection and response offering is intended to provide enterprises with increased visibility and control over threats emerging within the browser environment. This, the company states, allows organisations to reduce their attack surface, access actionable intelligence, and strengthen their cybersecurity posture as browser-based threat vectors continue to evolve.
