Leaseweb names Ronald Richardson as Chief Revenue Officer

Fri, 9th Jan 2026

Leaseweb has appointed Ronald Richardson as Chief Revenue Officer as the cloud services group pursues its next phase of global growth and sharpens its focus on sovereign-by-design hybrid cloud.

The Amsterdam-based Infrastructure as a Service provider said Richardson will lead its global go-to-market organisation and oversee commercial strategy. He will be responsible for scaling revenue operations worldwide as organisations reassess cloud infrastructure choices in light of data sovereignty and artificial intelligence.

Richardson brings more than 20 years of international commercial leadership experience in technology, cloud, software and online advertising. He has held senior roles at Banyan, Microsoft, AdEspresso, Axon and ESS.

Leaseweb said the appointment aligns with rising demand for hybrid cloud infrastructure that addresses jurisdictional control of data. The company positions its services around a "sovereign-by-design" approach that reflects customer concerns over regulation, privacy and control.

Commercial focus

In his new role, Richardson will work with sales, marketing, product and operations teams. Leaseweb said he will focus on strengthening customer relationships and tightening alignment across these functions.

The company expects the new CRO structure to place greater emphasis on coordinated global execution. The remit includes refining messaging around Leaseweb's cloud portfolio and its approach to sovereignty at a time when many enterprises are mixing public and private environments with on-premise infrastructure.

Lex Boost, co-CEO at Leaseweb, said the company sees Richardson's experience as central to its expansion plans. "Ronald brings an outstanding track record of commercial experience and strategic capability to Leaseweb," said Lex Boost, co-CEO at Leaseweb. "His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to expand our international footprint. We are delighted to welcome him to the team as we advance our mission to be the world's leading independent, privately owned, and sovereign-by-design hybrid cloud provider."

Richardson has previously worked with high-growth business-to-business technology companies undergoing rapid change. Leaseweb said he has led organisations through periods of significant growth and transformation and has focused on cross-team collaboration.

Industry background

Richardson's experience at Microsoft and other technology firms has covered cloud-based services, software and digital advertising. That background reflects the convergence of infrastructure, applications and data-driven services now shaping corporate IT strategies.

His roles at Banyan, AdEspresso, Axon and ESS involved commercial leadership in environments that required international expansion and rapid scaling of sales organisations. Leaseweb said this track record would support its own efforts in new and existing markets.

The company operates 28 data centres across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America and runs more than 80,000 servers. It serves about 20,000 customers, including small and midsize businesses and larger enterprises, and offers public cloud, private cloud, dedicated servers, colocation, content delivery and cyber security services.

Demand for hybrid models has increased as organisations balance workloads across multiple cloud providers and in-house infrastructure. Regulatory scrutiny of data location and access rights has intensified debates over which providers can meet national and regional rules around data handling.

Sovereign-by-design push

Leaseweb describes its strategy as centred on independence and private ownership. The company presents this structure as a way for customers to retain control over data residency and compliance while using distributed infrastructure.

Cloud providers have been adapting products and regional footprints as authorities in Europe and other markets advance stricter requirements on data sovereignty and AI-related processing. This backdrop has widened the focus on vendors that can demonstrate granular control over where and how data is stored.

Richardson said the current shift in enterprise technology creates an opening for Leaseweb's positioning.

"What excites me about Leaseweb is that we are uniquely positioned to lead in a world where cloud and AI are transforming every industry," said Ronald Richardson, CRO of Leaseweb. "Our mission to be the world's leading independent, privately owned and sovereign-by-design hybrid cloud provider is exactly what customers need today, offering the control they expect along with the freedom to innovate without compromise, and I'm proud to be joining a company that embodies these principles."

Leaseweb said Richardson will now work with regional teams as it pursues growth across its existing geographies and evaluates further expansion of its data centre and network footprint.
