Joe Honan appointed Chief Executive Officer of Singularity Compute
SingularityNET has named Joe Honan as Chief Executive Officer of Singularity Compute, the group's for-profit operating company focused on advanced AI compute infrastructure and AGI-class solutions.
The appointment places Honan at the helm of one of the core businesses supporting SingularityNET's goal of accelerating the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and providing high-performance compute solutions globally.
Leadership background
Honan's career spans decades in technology leadership, having contributed to founding, scaling, and commercialising technology ventures with total exit values exceeding USD $8 billion. He has held executive management roles for over 25 years, with expertise covering AI, blockchain, high-performance compute, edge, and decentralised systems.
Before accepting the Chief Executive Officer position, Honan served as an executive advisor to the Singularity Compute initiative, where he promoted the development of secure, sovereign, and decentralised compute infrastructure. His focus has been on ensuring that beneficial AI is accessible and equitably distributed.
Supporting decentralised AI
Singularity Compute plays an essential role within the broader SingularityNET ecosystem and the Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) Alliance by supporting both AGI research and the delivery of compute solutions. Under Honan's leadership, the company will focus on supporting AGI research and becoming a revenue-generating organisation in its own right.
Dr Ben Goertzel, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of SingularityNET, stated,
"Joe Honan brings a rare blend of vision, technical depth, and proven execution to the leadership of Singularity Compute. His decades of experience building successful technology businesses, combined with his passion for equitable and decentralized infrastructure, make him the ideal person to guide our compute organization at this critical juncture. As AI rapidly approaches AGI, ensuring that the world has open, secure, and accessible compute resources is essential, and with Joe leading Singularity Compute, I'm confident we'll deliver on that promise."
Future infrastructure focus
Honan's remit at Singularity Compute will involve driving the company's expansion and reinforcing its dual goals of supporting foundational AGI research and delivering secure AI computing to global markets. His appointment comes at a time when debates about the societal impact of AI are intensifying, with AGI and superintelligence discussions at the forefront.
In a statement about his new role, Honan said,
"We stand at the most important crossroads in human history. The rise of AI and its path toward AGI and eventually superintelligence will shape the future of civilization. What we do now will determine whether that future is beneficial, equitable, and just, or concentrated in the hands of a few. I believe it is our responsibility, and indeed the most important work of our time, to ensure that no one is left behind. By building secure, sovereign, and decentralized compute infrastructure, Singularity Compute is laying the foundation for a future where AGI serves all of humanity, not just a privileged few. I am honored to lead this mission and to work with the extraordinary SingularityNET community to make it real."
Mission and alliances
SingularityNET was created to pursue decentralised and beneficial AGI, promoting open collaboration and independence from any central authority. Its activities are supported by a diverse team of engineers, scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Alongside core platform development, the group works across application domains such as finance, robotics, biomedical AI, media, arts, and entertainment.
Singularity Compute's work is also linked with the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, a partnership between Fetch.ai, SingularityNET, Ocean Protocol, and CUDOS. The alliance's remit is to accelerate decentralised AGI development and research into Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).
