HighPoint launches RS654x Series NVMe RAID enclosures

Yesterday

HighPoint Technologies has introduced the RS654x Series NVMe RAID Enclosures, a new line of external storage solutions aimed at media post-production professionals, content creators, and high-performance computing applications.

The company states that these enclosures are designed to address the needs of demanding workflows, offering significant improvements in speed, reliability, and storage capacity. These features are essential for applications such as video editing, 3D rendering, and other resource-intensive tasks.

The RS654x Series enclosures measure under 5 inches in height and 10 inches in length, making them compact enough to integrate easily with Windows or Linux PC workstations or server platforms that have a PCIe x16 slot available. Despite their small size, the enclosures are positioned as an effective solution for professional media workstations, edge computing, high-performance computing (HPC), and industrial computing environments.

One of the key attributes of the RS654x Series is its real-world transfer speeds, reportedly reaching up to 28GB/s. HighPoint attributes this performance to its NVMe RAID and PCIe Switching Technology, aspects designed to streamline data processing for applications like 8K video editing and high-performance computing. The enclosures leverage advanced PCIe 4.0 x16 Switch Architecture, which ensures high-bandwidth connections to each NVMe SSD, thereby reducing latency and enhancing throughput.

HighPoint promotes the compact design of these enclosures as "industrial grade," boasting a capability to support nearly 1 petabyte of storage capacity. This, they claim, makes it suitable for managing large data sets typically needed in various professional settings.

According to HighPoint, the RS654x Series enclosures incorporate a cooling system designed to keep operating temperatures within optimal ranges without generating disruptive noise. This system also includes an integrated power supply that helps to separate the NVMe media from the host platform, reportedly enhancing reliability and reducing the thermal burdens on the computing environment.

Built-in support for RAID levels 0, 1, and 10 offers users the ability to tailor storage solutions according to their specific needs. HighPoint claims that this feature enables administrators to easily manage and scale RAID storage to meet the demands of their applications and workflows.

The enclosures utilise PCIe switching technology, which HighPoint describes as crucial for reducing latency while ensuring devices operate at full capacity. Additionally, the enclosures provide 400Gbps CDFP connectivity, a factor the company says optimises data transfer by improving signal quality and reliability.

The RS654x Series is also noted for its scalability features. With integrated NVMe Hot-Swap capability, users can reportedly add, remove, or replace U.2/U.3 media without rebooting or powering down the system, thereby minimising the risk of downtime.

HighPoint suggests that these new enclosures are tailored for high-resolution applications and large-file handling, citing their capacity to support 4K and 8K video editing and complex project requirements with the necessary speed and reliability.

The RS654x Series NVMe RAID Enclosures are presented as comprehensive solutions for professionals engaged in media post-production, content creation, and high-performance computing, offering speed, compact design, and various advanced features to meet data-intensive application demands.
