Hexnode launches AI context layer for endpoint management

Hexnode has launched Hexnode Context Layer for its endpoint management platform, linking Hexnode Genie AI with live management data.

The new layer serves as an orchestration and governance layer between the conversational AI interface and Hexnode's Unified Endpoint Management system. It is designed to take a natural-language request from an IT administrator, interpret the intent, and send it to the relevant agent within the management platform.

The goal is to reduce the number of steps administrators take inside the console. Instead of moving manually between separate parts of the system, users can submit a request through Genie AI and let the Context Layer route it to a specialist function for tasks such as policy work, application deployment, device actions, or status checks.

Consequential actions still require administrator approval. Hexnode is positioning the product around assisted workflow execution rather than fully automated control, keeping a human decision point before changes are made across managed devices.

How it works

The Context Layer draws on live fleet context from Hexnode UEM. Hexnode says this allows the system to support end-to-end device management workflows, including policy creation, app deployment, device actions, and status tracking, through a single conversational interface.

The architecture relies on a set of specialised agents mapped to core areas of endpoint management. One agent handles device management tasks across the device lifecycle, including discovery, device details, installed application tracking, location monitoring, historical action logs, and remote actions.

Another covers users and groups, spanning identity lifecycle, enrolment, and directory structures. This part of the system is intended to support onboarding, group assignments, and user-device workflows using identity context from the platform.

A separate policy and configuration agent supports policy inspection, comparison, drafting, and configuration review. It is intended to help identify policy gaps, validate settings, and prepare configuration changes before they are applied across the wider fleet.

Application management is handled by another dedicated agent covering app discovery, repositories, app groups, catalogues, and deployment workflows. An operational reporting agent, meanwhile, is designed to analyse fleet telemetry, data usage, app usage, compliance signals, and device activity to produce operational summaries.

Privacy controls

Hexnode has also added privacy controls to the Genie AI processing layer. Sensitive and personally identifiable information is stripped before complex processing, while core processing is handled through an internally hosted model, according to the company.

This addresses a wider issue for AI products in IT administration, where software increasingly handles operational data tied to devices, employees, and access activity. Suppliers in the sector face pressure to show how information is processed, what leaves internal systems, and where human oversight is retained.

Endpoint management vendors have been adding AI interfaces as administrators look for faster ways to search systems, identify issues, and trigger routine actions. The challenge has been moving beyond chatbot-style responses to systems that can act on current fleet conditions without removing control from IT teams.

Hexnode's latest release reflects that broader industry shift, using an AI assistant not only to retrieve information but also to connect requests to distinct management workflows. Hexnode says the Context Layer gives Genie AI visibility into what is happening across the environment so it can reason across multiple parts of the UEM platform.

Hexnode is the software division of Mitsogo. Its UEM platform is used by IT teams to manage devices, users, applications, and policies from a central console.

The specialised agents are intended to reduce the need for administrators to navigate multiple workflows separately. The aim is to bring tasks tied to devices, users, policy, applications, and reporting into a single conversational route while preserving approval controls for actions that can affect managed systems.
