Gordon Murray Group streamlines IT operations with Apogee

Today

Gordon Murray Group has named Apogee as its primary IT partner in a move designed to improve operational efficiency and streamline device management across the business.

The partnership will see Apogee manage all IT assets for the British supercar manufacturer, including around 350 laptops. Following the transition, Gordon Murray Group has already reported significant reductions in time required for device set up, as well as improvements in security and standardisation across its technology estate.

Prior to engaging Apogee, Gordon Murray Group was faced with challenges in configuring new laptops, managing a lack of standardisation among devices, and high time investment for manual processes. These issues curtailed productivity and placed operational strain on the IT team, compounded by the obligation to purchase and manage rapidly ageing IT equipment as capital expenditure (CAPEX).

After a comprehensive audit of the company's existing IT infrastructure, Apogee implemented an automated, secure process for device configuration, leveraging Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune. Gordon Murray Group reports that laptop set up times have improved 30-fold, with devices now ready for use in under five minutes. This process has allowed the IT team to refocus efforts away from manual configuration and laptop imaging.

An additional outcome of the review was a significant reduction in device model diversity. The company previously managed more than 60 device models but now operates with only two: one standard model for CAD users and another for standard users. According to Gordon Murray Group, this measure has streamlined inventory management and device oversight, lowering complexity and promoting a more consistent user experience. All devices have been configured in line with Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmarks to enhance security and protect sensitive data.

Wayne Clements, Head of IT at Gordon Murray Group, said: "Being a young, niche manufacturer, agility is absolutely key for us. But the IT function was struggling to meet the demands of the wider organisation when we brought new users on board or needed to replace devices for existing employees, leading to problems managing the overall estate. With Apogee as one of our key strategic IT suppliers, our colleagues are benefiting from updated hardware, consistent secure builds and rapid deployment. The level of support we have received has been fantastic. The team is completely dependable, knowledgeable and fully trusted."

In addition to the technical upgrades, Gordon Murray Group has transitioned to a flexible operating expenditure (OPEX) model through Apogee's services. The change allows the business to access up-to-date HP devices without incurring significant upfront spending on capital items. The company views this shift as beneficial to its financial agility and as a way to invest more effectively in business-critical areas.

Max Robson, Account Director at Apogee, said: "With this project, we've become a trusted technology partner for Gordon Murray Group. This ongoing collaboration allows us to continuously support the company's growth and innovation, ensuring their IT infrastructure evolves in tandem with their business needs."

The partnership also focuses on enhancing the onboarding experience for staff. New employees receive co-branded welcome packs that contain laptops pre-configured for immediate use, supporting rapid induction and standardised deployment across the company.

Gordon Murray Group operates as both a manufacturer of high-performance supercars and a provider of advanced engineering services, with a portfolio that includes models such as the T.50 and T.33.
