Ekinops unveils PM 100HDF01 module for 100G networks

Fri, 22nd Nov 2024

Ekinops has announced the release of the PM 100HDF01 pluggable module under its Ekinops360 WDM optical transport system.

The new solution is tailored to meet the increasing demand for 100G capabilities at the network edge. Built on Ekinops' 200G FlexRate optical technology, the PM 100HDF01 has been optimised for cost-efficiency in offering 100G performance, providing necessary connectivity solutions across various distances.

The emergence of applications such as 5G mobile, edge computing, artificial intelligence, and broadband access has significantly increased bandwidth demand within access networks. In response, service providers are transitioning from 10G to 100G networks and require solutions that can be rapidly implemented across extensive network locations. However, as coherent 100G transceivers in the QSFP28 form factor are limited in commercial availability, alternative solutions that deliver both high performance and essential functionalities are sought after.

Ekinops describes the PM 100HDF01 as a transponder-based solution capable of delivering connectivity across a range of distances from edge to ultra-long haul. Unlike pluggable options, this solution offers a managed service demarcation point, facilitating efficient SLA monitoring and service delivery. The transport solution is designed to integrate smoothly into existing operational frameworks, thereby streamlining troubleshooting processes.

"The PM 100HDF01 is designed to address those applications where 10G is not enough capacity but 200G is too much," said Sylvain Quartier, Chief Marketing Officer at Ekinops. "It's a true multi-reach solution delivering all the performance you would expect from a transponder at a cost point that makes it attractive for deployment at the edge where demand for 100G is really growing."

The PM 100HDF01 can be deployed to enhance capacity in both new and existing network setups, and also as an alien wavelength over third-party line systems. This flexibility allows for simple and scalable bandwidth expansion with a quick return on investment. It is compatible with Ekinops 10G aggregation modules, which enables service providers to deliver lower-speed services over high-speed connections, sustaining their revenue base while transitioning services gradually.

Ekinops has reported that the PM 100HDF01 is already generally available and has garnered interest from several customers, reflecting its relevance and appeal in the market.
