Domino unveils AI platform upgrades with AWS & NetApp

Fri, 22nd Nov 2024

Domino Data Lab has announced the integration of Amazon Web Services (AWS), NetApp, and NVIDIA into its enterprise AI platform, enhancing capabilities for AI deployment and data management.

Domino Data Lab's platform, designed to facilitate and oversee data science workflows within enterprises, now includes new capabilities and integrations with AWS, NetApp, and NVIDIA. These additions aim to reduce the time-to-value of AI projects while cutting costs and maintaining security across both cloud and on-premises environments.

Enterprise AI operations necessitate diverse technologies to meet the complex demands of data and computing. Domino aims to streamline these processes by coordinating AI, IT, and risk resources across the AI lifecycle within a single platform. According to Domino, this approach helps organisations reduce project duration and costs while ensuring AI governance is maintained.

"The rapid pace of AI innovation has brought immense complexity for enterprises needing to orchestrate diverse tools and infrastructure," said Nick Elprin, CEO and co-founder at Domino. "Domino's latest capabilities simplify this process, enabling organisations to manage and scale AI initiatives seamlessly across any environment."

The platform now supports NVIDIA's NIM microservices, part of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform, which allows enterprises to swiftly transition AI concepts into production in hybrid cloud settings. This includes access to open-source pre-trained models with inherent governance and secure access through NVIDIA AI Enterprise.

Domino has introduced new project templates that enable the sharing of AI project best practices, thereby increasing the pace and quality of data science projects. These templates encompass code, datasets, environments, and configurations.

Collaboration with AWS and NetApp has led to new features aimed at scaling AI deployments efficiently and reducing associated costs. Enterprises can deploy AI models to Amazon SageMaker while retaining governance oversight, providing flexible deployment options.

The introduction of Domino Volumes for NetApp ONTAP (DVNO) allows companies to manage data across environments without additional operational overhead. This integration reportedly reduces costs and processing times by up to 50% based on specific use cases.

"NetApp and Domino both fundamentally believe that AI will be driven by the hybrid cloud to turbocharge AI workflows at scale and on budget," said Jonsi Stefansson, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at NetApp. "NetApp's innovations in intelligent data infrastructure are bringing AI to our customers' data, wherever and however they need it. By collaborating with NetApp, Domino is giving data scientists and data engineers the ability to secure, unify and scale their data operations alongside enhanced AI tooling to achieve their AI goals."

Mike Leone, Practice Director and Principal Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, commented on the collaboration saying, "By strategically collaborating with NetApp and integrating their data solutions into Domino's platform, Domino is enhancing their position in the enterprise AI market, while enabling NetApp to advance their own AI ecosystem. In industries like biopharmaceuticals, where AI governance is crucial for speed and safety, this partnership can enable customers to accelerate AI deployments and provide a competitive edge that truly delivers transformative value at enterprise scale."

Domino has also launched Domino Governance to automate compliance processes, helping enterprises mitigate risk while continuing AI operations. This new feature facilitates compliance with both internal and external policies for enterprises.

The introduction of Domino Cloud, a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, has attracted increased customer interest. The company reports a significant increase in annual recurring revenue and customer uptake within the past year, indicating growing enterprise adoption.

"One of the greatest opportunities we have with AI is to accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs," said Brandon Allgood, Chief Data Science Officer at Parabilis Medicines. "Being able to leverage Domino Cloud helps our teams rapidly harness AI to design novel peptides for the treatment of cancers."

Domino's Fall Release, which facilitates model deployment to Amazon SageMaker, project templates, and support for NVIDIA NIM microservices, is now generally available. The DVNO feature will be incorporated into Domino Cloud by Q1 2025.
