Cloudera enhances data access, automation & governance for AI

Fri, 21st Nov 2025

Cloudera has announced a major platform update designed to improve unified data access and governance through the integration of Trino, Cloudera SDX, and Cloudera Octopai Data Lineage. The new release aims to address enterprise challenges tied to fragmented data and inconsistent governance, providing automation and control for data spread across various environments.

Data access

Most organisations continue to face difficulties accessing all their data due to systems operating in isolation. According to a recent survey commissioned by Cloudera, only 9% of IT leaders say all of their organisation's data is accessible, while just 38% report that most data is usable for artificial intelligence initiatives. This limited access restricts the scalability of AI projects within businesses.

The platform update introduces data federation capabilities using Trino, allowing enterprises to run secure queries on distributed data through natural language interfaces. This supports querying data where it is stored, rather than requiring data movement, while using the compute engines closest to the data source. The approach is designed to enable more efficient and accessible use of enterprise data assets.

Automation features

Cloudera's platform now comes with embedded AI that automates key aspects of data fabric operations, including data quality checks, classification, and profiling. Automation extends to streamlining workflows for cleansing and organising data, with the intent to boost operational efficiency for data teams and users across the organisation.

Natural language processing interfaces are included to support more intuitive interaction with data. This is intended to enable self-service data access for both technical and non-technical staff, potentially broadening usage and accelerating decision-making processes within enterprises.

Unified governance

With the integration of Cloudera SDX, metadata and access controls are unified under a single management layer. This provides a consistent application of governance and security policies across cloud and on-premises infrastructure. The system is built to give a secure, single endpoint for accessing all enterprise data, without redundant policy or security management.

Cloudera Octopai Data Lineage has also been included in this update. It provides end-to-end data tracking, offering visibility into all data transformations, including those for data generated outside of Cloudera's own environments. The documentation of data lineage is designed to increase transparency and stakeholder trust, especially in regulated or compliance-driven sectors.

Deployment options

Trino can now be deployed in both private data centres and public cloud environments, with certified connectors making it possible to federate data across different systems and locations. This flexibility is intended to support hybrid and multi-cloud data strategies, which are increasingly common among large organisations seeking to avoid vendor lock-in and capitalise on existing infrastructure.

Business impact

"Our mission at Cloudera has always been to empower enterprises to make trusted data available for every AI initiative," said Leo Brunnick, Chief Product Officer, Cloudera. "With this release, we're taking a major step forward, bringing AI-powered automation, governance, and access together under one platform. Enterprises can now securely harness all their data anywhere to accelerate innovation and drive better business outcomes."
